hi,
I recently bought a new k700i and was trying to send some old pics from my SE t630 via bluetooth. Every thing went o.k until i tried to send a pic from my k700 to my t630, it says "connecting.." but thats all, i had to than restart my phone. I ran vodafone and they said that maybe it was bluetooth uncompaitblity coz the T630 is older than k700, can this be right?

As far as I know, file transfers via Bluetooth adhere to a certain Bluetooth protocol which is
standardized. So there shouldn't be any compatibility issues between a K700i and a T630. My
guess is that they simply tried to get rid of you, probably because they didn't have a clue.

However the SE K700i's retail software (i.e. the phone software the phone came with) appears
to be pretty buggy. My K700i crashes and reboots if I enter "117#" with (german) T9 activated.
This doesn't seem to happen with other phones though.

According to SE support and to several internet sources a new software has been released by
SE. However this version has to be approved by the network providers (e.g. vodafone) before
a phone may be updated without voiding the warranty.

If you want to check which version you have, press the following from the phone's standby
screen (i.e. the screen with the background image/animation):

> * < < * < *
(where > and < mean "joystick right" and "joystick left").

If you've done it right, you'll be in a special menu called "Service".

Now go to "Service info" -> "Software-Info".

The very first line shows the phone software's version. On a new phone, that should be
"R2A...". The latest version appears to be "R2E...", but as of today I haven't been able to get it
in Germany as it hasn't been approved by the providers yet.

This new software is said to have fixed many bugs (like spontaneous rebooting), and I also
read repeatedly that it prolongs battery life quite a bit (supposedly by better usage of the
hardware's energy saving options).

So if you want to try this software, call SE support (you'll find the number on the "Service and
Support" leaflet that came with the phone), ask them about a software update and they'll point
you to the nearest certified SE partner who'll update your phone. This *should* be free if you
bring the receipt as proof of your purchase.

Remember, they may tell you they applied the newest software but just re-applied the same
one because the new one isn't approved yet, so don't forget to check the version number again
after the supposed update to check which version they actually applied.

Hope this helps...

/edit: A word to the admins... It seems I screwed your board database. I got an error when first trying to post this reply. It was there if I opened the thread, but it wasn't listed in the threads list so I deleted it (which resulted in the answer count showing -1) and re-posted it. Now the answer count shows 0, but at least the thread's position has been updated. Please have a look into this.

If you want to update your phone, then simply go to a Mobile Phone Repair shop (or call them). Otherwise go to Sony Ericsson and follow the path to the support. Find the k700i and in its support page there's a Contact Us option. They are quite good in replying e-mails.

According to what they told me at the MPR, they just put it into a cradle and press an update button, the rest happens automatically.

If you have a branded phone, it'll be recognized and updated to the latest branded version. If you have an unbranded version, you'll just get the latest unbranded software version...
