Hi

Have just started to set up a QNAP 251+ NAS - first time so lots of fun.
I am trying to get a VPN set up to browse folders on the NAS via my Android phone.

I have discovered that my LG G2 (lollipop) won't work using the android IPsec VPN (phone resets when I try and make a connection) so I am using OpenVPN.

I have managed to get the OpenVPN to connect from the phone to the NAS direrctly and can see the shared folders, but cannot open these folders (eg multimedia, public etc).

I am using ES file explorer to view the folders on the phone.

Any thoughts on what may be the issue or where I should be looking - any googled suggestions I have tried are not helping.

Cheers

That's strange.
I have a QNAP at home and run OpenVPN too.
I just tested mine, and it seems to be fine browsing the folders from ES File Explorer.

Are you using WiFi or a 4G connection when connecting to the VPN?
Have you tried browsing the file with the QNAP app Qfile?

ES explorer cannot access the files via local Wifi, 4G or external Wifi.
I'll play with Qfile and some NAS settings over the weekend and see how I go. It is good to know that ES file Manager should work. That's one more thing ruled out.

Thanks for the Feedback.

The account credentials you logged in with via ES File Explorer, make sure that account has permissions to access those shared folders.
Might also pay to check your System Logs for errors or warnings on the web console.

Good luck.
Let me know if you want me to compare any settings on my setup.

All going now. Thanks for the help.
Turns out while ES explorer didn't ask for password/login on the NAS it found with it's automatic scans, if I manually added the NAS as a server I could enter the username etc so it had the permissions it needed.
