I don't want to start a standards war. I know Bluetooth and wi-fi are different beasts and I'll not discuss how Bluetooth is a wire replacement used to link peripherals and other devices.
No, I'm not going there. I'm just going to report some experience with Bluetooth.
I've been using Bluetooth for a little while now. The list of Bluetooth devices I have or have experienced is getting long. I have two Bluetooth mobile phones (Nokia 3650 and Ericsson T39m), a Bluetooth headset (Ericsson HBH-20), a Bluetooth USB adapter (TDK) and iPAQ H3970.
Before that I had a Visor Prism with Red-M Springboard and a Palm m130 with Bluetooth SD Card.
I've tried for Geekzone the Socket Bluetooth GPS receiver and the DriveBlue handsfree car kit. I've just received two Belkin USB adapters (which I will talk about later), and I'm expecting to receive soon a box with Bluetake USB adapters and headset.
After writing some of the Bluetooth Guides for our site, I can say I experienced lots of things with Bluetooth.
I'm sure it's no rival for wi-fi, because it's not supposed to be! I'm writing this post from my notebook connected to my network using the Belkin Bluetooth adapters. It works like a charm! I had this LAN access setup in less than 10 minutes, including software installation.
I can sync my contacts from my Pocket PC with my desktop, and from there with my mobile phone. I can use my mobile phone to access the internet, from my Pocket PC or laptop.
The technology is really nice. Using it makes me feel good, because I can talk to some of the critics and say "What are you talking about? I use this in my everyday business and it works!".
What are your experiences with this technology? What do you see right and wrong in its implementation? I'm curious to find more about our users, what drives them.
