I have a wireless security camera I want to mount around 100m away from my WiFi access point (has clear line of sight). Camera is an EZVIZ model with external antennas.

What is the simplest setup to extend WiFi to the camera? Would pointing a directional antenna at the camera work? Or will I need a long range antenna on both ends?

Any suggestions on where to start would be helpful!

Thanks!

with wifi both devices need to be able to work over the range, so having a directional antenna sending to the camera isnt going to help the camera sending back.

i suspect you will need directional at both ends

what power supply do you have at the camera end?

Mikrotik 60ghz wireless wire bridge kit.
RBwAPG-60adkit works outdoors quite nicely and comes preconfigured out of the box.

Wifi isnt designed to stream to multiple devices at once so if you are recording across the wifi link, it will dramatically slow down other devices such as tablets and laptops attached to the same access point.
For short distance stationary installations, a 60ghz bridge is best suited.

I watched a youtube video a while back that showed how later versions of wifi have been tuned much more for a many device environment.

as long as all devices support that standard, plus i dont believe that standard has been fully ratified yet

Is the antenna on the camera detachable with a SMA connector at the base, or is it fixed?

100m is easily doable if you swap both ends out for cheap panel style antennas.

Ideal world, all devices able to see each other, operating at the higher speeds supported on the AP, yeah it can help somewhat, but as soon as one device (the camera) is not visible by all the other devices, there will be massive amounts of collisions.

you can run 4 720p cheapie cameras off a single chain 802.11n accesspoint when the channel is very clear IME, adding that onto other use and things just go to trash. Depending on the environment then a dedicated AP for the remote camera with a directional antenna on it may work out ok.

I can hit a claimed 15dB antenna cheapo outdoor AP outside from my phone and get functional speeds both ways from 80m away, so its not outside the realm of possibility that it will work, but stick it in an urban area with 30 other networks chatting away and it will fail.

Directional antenna on both ends and it should be good enough for a single stream from one of those low quality cams that come up when i search for ezviz.

Directional antennas provide just as much gain for reception as for transmission, so a directional antenna at one end may be enough. I agree though, directional at both ends will be better - as others have pointed out, it will minimise interference from other channel users.
