Apologies for the basic nature of this question. I have done a Google search, and from what I've read I think it's ok, but I find this quite confusing and can't afford to get it wrong as WFH etc.

I'm changing to slingshot and am hoping my current device is compatible with their network.

  • Does anyone know if my Netgear AC 1600 D6400 is compatible with slingshot broadband?
  • SS said it needs to have DHCP and vlan (which I think I read in the Netgear manual?)

Pic of spec sheet in case it helps

Thanks

If your Slingshot plan is Fibre there could be a problem - your device is listed as ADSL/VDSL.

Thanks for the quick reply and omg did I overlook that!?

I thought I had used it in the past for fibre...!?

If it's not going to work I need something (cheap) asap

Thank you

It should work, the photo said that it has a WAN port and 4 LAN ports

I know enough to be dangerous

Yep, it will work for Fibre - who is your current provider?

you should be able to use it with fibre. i won't expect it to handle gigabit speeds, but you should be able to use it to get a usable connection.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm coming from skinny and have just read (my now finished) 12month plan comes with a free modem, so I'm guessing I can use that? (If so, I think would be a better option than the Netgear?)

It will probably work with Slingshot, but for an extra $5 a month with them, you can get an Orbi Wi-Fi 6 Mesh router which will perform much better than the one you mention, especially if you have more than 10 connected devices in the house. If you use your current one, there won’t be much point going for anything faster then the 300/100 plan (which is fast enough for 99% of people).

Ah thanks for that, I didn't realise it would make that much difference (thought I'd save by Byod) but it works out $60 for the year which isn't too bad.

I did a quick search and found a tp link AX 1500 wifi 6 for $99 ( or 1800 $115)  would these be a better investment to keep long term or am I comparing apples with oranges?

(I have 2 AP's in the house so wifi coverage isn't an issue)
