I have just moved to Telstra clear from telecom and have a D link DSL-G640T.  I have gone through the set up process and have access to broad band, but can’t use it wireless.

I have called Telstraclear for help, but they told me, on 2 occasions, to phone dlink, upon phoning Dlink, I was informed, by an answer machine, that it could cost me $40 for help, so I hanged up.

Can anybody advice me on how to set it up for wireless please?

thanks

There is a wireless setup page, under top tap HOME, side tap Wireless, see page 30 of manual. What are those parameters set to.

Hi, the pdf is available on Dlinks site, but it does not tell you much more that we can resolve here. I guess you have ticked the AP enabled box at the top, further to that don't use WEP, use WPA and once thats enabled if WPA2 is offered (only shows up if WPA is selected) then use WPA2 with a Pre Shared Key, you will need to supply a string which you must remember in exact detail.

Another thing is once you hit the apply button you also need to ensure things stay, these Dlinks are bad for forgetting settings if you don't permanently save them, select Tools (top tab) then System (side tab) then save and reboot, this saving and reboot applies to all changes in settings otherwise it forgets the lot.

Cheers
Cyril

Hi Cyril,

i have the option to use WPA2, but before i change the settings, what is the string, is it relevant to any other passwords or do i just make one up for it?

Thanks for you help,
Paul

Hi, yes its just a string that is the security key, when you do get one of your PCs to connect you will be asked for this key to seed the security to connect. The string can contain spaces and is case sensitive, so remember it exactly, some routers let you see the string as you enter it and once entered others hash it.

Cheers
Cyril
