Here is the story so far, I have a Sony Vaio A270 with built in BT as well as a Belkin F8T002 PCI Bluetooth Card. My I Paq is the 3870 with built in BT and Pocket PC 2003 (version 4.0)

I have recently found through this forum that the Sony Vaio BT software dose not work well with anything but Sony devices, so I un installed the drivers and reverted to my Belkin PCI card. I think I am right in saying that the I PAQ dosn't support PAN and the Belkin dosn't either. So I now have the Belkin BT seing the I Paq and the I Paq seing the Sony, but with only serial suppoer.

My questions are these, do I need to configure Com Ports on either of the devices? Dose either or both devices support PAN? How or what is the best way to get the two devices to communicate to each other?

PLease Help, I am working on a small Caribbean Island and the computer supplys are NILL!

The h3870 supports both PAN and LAP run running Windows Mobile 2003. On your Belkin Bluetooth software you have to use "Allow Internet Connection" or "Allow Private Network" to select between LAP and PAN.

If you're using LAP, follow our Bluetooth Guides. If you're using PAN, manually enter the configuration on the Bluetooth virtual network adapter, on the Pocket PC and then bridge the connections. Connecton from the Pocket PC and it should be ok.

Take care of firewall software because these will block the Bluetooth communications. You'll need to create rules if needed.

Thanks once again for a speedy reply.

1) What is the difference between LAP & PAN?
2) I have an icon in my network places which says the following - BT LAN Access Server.
3) Do I need to set up Internet Sharing on my WiFi Network Connection or the BT one?
4) I have DHCP on the router, but I have manually configured the Laptop.

With the Belkin, I now can see the I Paq and vis versa on the Laptop, but still no Active Sync or Serial Connection. Is it better to set up a PAN?

Sorry for all these questions but it is getting quite complex.

Richard.

LAP is an Internet access via PPP. PAN is a network connection (if your network access the Internet, then you'll also have access through it).

Check the Bluetooth Guides again, find the one that fits your case and follow it step by step. Print the page to make it easier to follow. It is clear there that the most important step when setting up ICS is to do it from the adapter on your computer facing the Internet. If you are using ICS you don't need to setup anything on your Pocket PC, everything is done on your computer. If you are using Bridge then you have to configure both your PC and Pocket PC.

You only need to configure a COM port if you plan to use ActiveSync over Bluetooth. Again check our guides if you want to do this.
