hello,

i recently got a new mac for my home and it is in a seperate room from my pc. i was thinking about buying a new wireless printer for my home so that i can print wirelessly from my computers. however is there a way i can connect my current printer to my wireless network via my wireless router??? i have router that comes with verizon fios, which i believe is a Actiontec MI424WR Broadband Router. it has a usb port on the back which i can plug my printer into but idk if i can use it this way. and if i can how do i need to change the seetings to be able to print wirelessly?

A quick Google for this model returns the MI424R manual as the first result.

There is no mention of USB printer support in the manual - actually there's no mention of printer or USB at all. I believe the USB port is there for either (a) updates or (b) connecting PCs that lack ethernet ports.

So I'd say no, it won't work with this router.

Hi, why not just get a wired network printer and connect it to one of the lan ports of the router, alternatively connect the printer to your PC (via USB) and share it out, it will then be available to your MAC to use, however this requires the PC to be on for it to work.

how can i share it through the pc?? i have gone to the settings and then hit share but idk what to do after that.

Hi, I assume you are running XP or Vista, not to sure about Vista but XP/2000/NT go into printers, right click on the printer you wish to share, the option of sharing should appear, it should be pretty obvious from there unless you have not installed file/printer sharing in your network setup.

Exactly the same in Vista for sharing a printer.

But if you're asking whether it's possible for that shared printer to be visible to the wirelessly connected Mac then I'm afraid I don't know.
