Motorola V551 and IPAQ h2215 cannot find each other via Bluetooth. I have installed all of the IPAQ updates. Please help!

Are you sure Bluetooth is ON and set to discoverable in both devices? You have to do a search from one device only.

Thank you for helping. Yes, Bluetooth is "Turned On" on the IPAQ and on the V551 I went to Settings, Connection, Bluetooth Link, Handsfree, Look for Devices. It churns for about 15 seconds and responds "No Devices Found".

Questions: 1) On the IPAQ, I go to Bluetooth Manager, New, Connect and there are a number of choices as to how to connect. Is it "Explore a Bluetooth device" or "Connect to the Internet" or Partner with a Cell Phone"?

2) On the IPAQ, if I go to Start, Settings, Connections, and press Connections again there's a spot to click "Add a new modem connection" in the My ISP section. Then it asks for username password, etc. Does that have anything to do with the setup and pairing of these devices?

Again, thank you so much for sharing any knowledge you have on this!

Mark, on your Pocket PC there's an option to add new devices. Try doing the pairing from there instead of starting on your phone. On Bluetooth Manager tap Tools | Paired Devices, then tap ADD and the search icon.

As for using the phone, if you want to use it as a data connection for your iPAQ, check our Bluetooth Guides.

I tried doing the pairing from the Ipaq. On Bluetooth Manager I tapped Tools | Paired Devices, then tap ADD and the search icon. It whirled for a few seconds and nothing happened.
Now having written that, after tapping Tools | Paired Devices, then tap ADD, the screen displays "Device" with an empty field and "passkey" with an empty field. Is this correct?

I went to the Geekzone BlueTooth guide site and hit a snare there. Under Bluetooth dial up guide for Ipaq, I went through the sequence. Hit a hitch when it instructed me to tap on the icon corresponding to the mobile phone. There is no phone icon present.

Thank for any suggestions and help.

It doesn't sound like the phone is in Discoverable mode. Can you check this please?

You are correct! I was not correctly making the phone discoverable. My bad. Sorry, I am not very knowledgeable about these things. I have now made the icon show up on the Ipaq.

Now the problem is "If using GPRS the "Phone Number" should be in the format *99***1#, where 1 is the connection configured in your mobile phone" I do not know what that number may be. Where would I find that information?

You can try with *99# first, this is the default connection. Then try the other ones (*99***1# and so on). However you will probably need to add the init string (the +CGDCONT part of the article) which is based on your mobile operator. You will need the APN name, user name and password.

Also, on Motorola phones you will have to add a reset command on the init string. It will like this: Z;+CGDCONT= and of course the rest of the CGDCONT configuration.

You can search on Google for APN names for your operator (I am pretty sure we have some configuration on these forums too).

We want to thank you so much for your help on this undertaking. we are not very savvy on these gadgets. It is nearly midnight here and I think we have managed to tap our energies on this and need time to recoup. We have had a bit of a learning curve tonight and thank goodness you were so very helpful. The idea of trying to figure out what a init string, APn,cgdcont, and reset command seem daunting at this hour. We do so appreciate your help. I am sure soon we will be back for help.
Again, thank you for your gracious help,
Alyssa
