Hi. I have been looking to get a usb Bluetooth adapter for my Nokia N-gage. and since i have read your site iam now very intersted in getting one to use the internet from my computer on my n-gage. For web browsing and msn.

But something has got me thinking. I have been told Bluetooth is 2.4Ghz.
Well so is my home network consisting of three computers, a laptop and Access point for long range connection to another house down the road.
How much if it will the wireless effect the bluetooth?

could this be avodid by changing the channel on the AP and computers?

Even if i did set it up i think the signal would be killed by the computers being scatterd around the house......

Any info welcome.

I have not heard of Bluetooth and WiFi interfering with each other.

I run a WiFi AP + 1 x desktop + 2 x laptops + wifi pocket pcs often, as well as bluetooth (both the wifi and bluetooth cover the whole house), and never any problems between the two.

Ok... Thanks for your reply.

Do you think there is anyway to detect there is a problem there?
Something like the bluetooth doesnt cover as far?

I could probly do some testing when i get the device.

I think there is no way to detect a conflict if there is one other than turn one offending device off to see if that makes a difference. i.e. if you bluetooth only works when wifi is off, then wifi is probably the problem, but its far more likely to be a bad driver install that mucks things up than radio interference between the two.

WiFi should go between 10 and 100 meters in a household situation, depending on gear quality, antenna placement etc etc.

Bluetooth should go 10 meters or 100 meters depending on which class of adapter you buy (but a phone or PDA will have a 10 meter adapter, so its the lowest range out of the two devices that counts)

Ok. Well i will wait till i get it.

But i think it will work fine. as i was just using wifi and bluetooth on my friends laptoip at the same time. and it all worked fine.

So there is no point buying a Class 1 device. as the one in my phone will be a Class 2 ?

As far as i am aware, phones and pdas are all class 2 (if thats the shorter range one), but i could easily be wrong.

I only have class 2 devices, but felt compelled to pay $10 more for a class 1 dongle with an external aerial.

This seems to be the case. Only a few dongles and some industrial products are class 1. Really, the whole idea is that of a Personal Area Network, and this is certainly not 100 metres.

I finally got it in the mail.

But iam having a hard time getting it to work with Nokia PC suite.
when it looks for devices it finds the phone, connects but i cant do anything, like transfure files, ect. becuse it says its not connected?

anyhelp?

ok.so i was sitting here using my laptop listening to music.
and on my ngage i went and dd a scan for bluetooth.
Wireless network on laptop drops from 100% to 40% Q
and music stops playing.
The scan finishes and the music starts playing again.

So this mean that bluetooth Will effect wifi !
The phone was about 50 - 60cm away from the pcmcia card.
and the phone didnt pick up anything, but if i turn off the wifi, it finds the computer?

looking at the log on the laptop it says there are unsuccessful Tx packets.
The bluetooth must destroy the packets.
Now that i think about it i have a bluetooth dongle in a computer between my AP and my other computer. This might be why i was unable to use wireless on my second computer and have reinstalled windows 3 times now to fix it.

i'll have to wait and see if taking the dongle out fixes it....
