Hi,

I have a compaq ipaq 3970 which is equipped with bluetooth. With my server (running windows 2000 server) i have a USB bluetooth device having a LAN profile. I have a cable modem connected with my server. In my house I have two more computers connected through a switch which share the internet connection on my server.

I wanted to share the internet connection with my ipaq. So i followed the advice given on this site, and enabled internet connection sharing for the bluetooth dongle. When I do that, I am able to access the internet from my IPAQ but my other computers are unable to do so. If I enable ICS for the LAN adapter serving the other PCs I lose the internet connection sharing with the IPAQ.

I even purchased the Wingate prxy server 5.0.2. However the configuration for that software is beyond my capabilities.

Is there any way I can share the internet connection for both the IPAQ as well as the other PCs on my home network using the simple ICS provided with windows. If not can I achieve this task using wingate?

Thank you

bhatti, ICS requires a special IP address 192.168.0.1 to work. If any other computer or device (router, ADSL model, cable modem) in your network uses this address then a conflict will occur.

Your alternatives are:

  • change your current network to use another range (192.168.2.x) for instance, and make sure the router DHCP gives addresses only on this new range
  • use Winrouter to configure the network.

You'll have to choose one or the other depending on which is easier for you to accomplish now.
