I bought a ASUS USB N-13 wifi access just to get a good wireless signal in my room which is downstairs and far away from my wifi router.

The n-13 is kind of ok but the drivers and interface are pretty crappy  especially on win7. clunky.
I only need this for my iphone which i use on wifi in my room but the signal at the moment is pretty patchy.-3mbps

I have Ethernet running to  my room too. maybe a simple wifi router?

Are there any other USB style AP's that i could try?

If you have ethernet running to your room going to a router downstairs, then all you need is an access point - not a router which would be overspending.

TP-Link make a good access point TL-WA501G
If you need that ethernet to plug into something like an xbox or pc, then get the TD-W8901G
router and turn off the routing functions and only use it as an AP and network switch.

Once you have bought it, I can talk you through setting it up as a simple AP.

thanks
I bought a LINKSYS WAP610N http://www.computerlounge.co.nz/components/componentview.asp?partid=13091

plugged it into the switch in my room. it seemed to work well but i found it would totally disrupt my whole network every 5mins or so. As make my adsl modem disconnect from the internet then it would reconnect in about 10 secs.

on the linksys forum many uses have had similar problems.. all blame crappy firmware.
I got frustrated with it and disconnected it. bah

I'll look into the TP-link model. It doesn't have to flash just ACTUALLY WORK Properly.
