Thought those of you with the D-Link adapter would be interested in the response from Technical Support to my relentless inquiries on the release of the 1.4.2.10 drivers.

The email as received:

Dear Customer,

Date of Reply: 12/31/2003 3:27:17 PM

Products: DBT-120
Operating System: Windows XP Pro

I left the statement very open because I had no further information nor could I obtain any.

I now have new information to present and it is as follows:

New hardware revision B4 will be shipping with 1.4.2.10. Estimated ETA for shipping is JAN-FEB 2004.

1.4.2.10 for previous hardware revisions B1-B3 will be available ETA FEB 2004 on support.dlink.com.

1.4.2.10 will not be available for any revision A units.

Thank you for networking with D-Link.

D-Link Technical Support

Good to know - still a couple of months to go. I was also informed by TDK that their driver 1.4 should be available in their website in the first or second week of January 2004. Let's see. It was supposed to be released in June 2003.

Actually, I was very surprised that I received this response. I logged countless hours calling and on hold as I insisted each call be escalated to level 3 technical support and even one time finally making it through to Engineering (where my call was rerouted back to level 1!!).

And logged over 10 to 15 separate incident tickets on D-Link's support site which I followed up with personal emails requesting action or resolution to the driver update issue.

I know I couldn't have been the only thorn in their side!!

I have a feeling they'll publish the drivers as proposed in February. My fear is that little, if any testing will go into this release specific to D-Link's hardware. I understand there are subtle differences in the hardware versions (A series, B series, etc.).

On another note /yes, this is off-topic/ I didn't get any response to my query in the Symbian Forum on my recent problems after upgrading to Office 2003 and Business Contact Manager with Outlook 2003. Have you seen anything in your perusal of the other newsgroups??
