Unsure if I discuss this here, Broadband General or Snap.

Been using a very reliable Netcomm NB6PlusW for a few years after upgrading from a single port Dynalynx. As I had to get line stats and do some other tests for Snap and the You Tube issue as described in the Snap sub forum, I went in to my modem settings and was shocked to see sync rate and line stats of around 5Mbps Down and 300kbps Up.

Since installing the modem and upgrading to ADSL2 my sync rates have been around 11-14Mbps Down and 1Mbps Up.

A quick reboot of the modem fixed the slow connection speed and my sync rates were back to normal
-- this happened on Wednesday 7/3

On Thursday (8/3) I woke up and noticed my ADSL light blinking away with no PPP connection - as I had no time to look into the issue before heading to work I left it to see if there was an issue with Snap or it was just my modem being weird.

On arriving home, I had regained access and had been connected for 6 hours. Checking sync speeds and line rates I once again saw values of around around 5Mbps Down and 300kbps Up. Another reboot brought back familiar 12Mbps Down and 1Mbps Up.

--------------------------
My question for those in the know .. is my modem dying or is it just being weird?
If I hadn't of been doing the YouTube testing for Snap I would never have noticed the sync speed issue

Swap out with a different modem and see if your "issues" are still there.

this is a slap in the face!

I figured that would be the answer, unfortunately all my spare modems were stolen from my storage shed over 18 months ago and I would need to actually purchase a new modem to swap it out.

Borrow one from someone else. Whether you like it or not, process of elimimation is one of the best troubleshooting techniques you can use. No-one is going to be able to come in here wave a magic wand and tell you what the problem is over the internet. You're going to need to try stuff out.

Sorry for the slowness of the reply
Working on an IT helpdesk at the moment so yes I do know all about process of elimination as I use it everyday.

However sometimes I just want to remove myself from my job and get someone else to tell me things Smile

Tonight I ordered a new modem however as I was online and all of a sudden, no internet access.
My modem was rebooting .. Which tells me its a modem issue
