jonathan18: A question: if I took our Roborock cleaner into our sleepout, what would happen to the existing mapping?

I’m assuming it would have to create a new map for the second space, but what would it do when it was returned to the main house? I’m not keen on trialing this to see what happens because of the risk I’d lose all the no-go zones I’ve marked out so have to start from scratch.

hi all, I wonder if anyone else have experience this issue with the battery (Xiaomi Robot Vac 1st Gen).

Charged to 100%, turn off power to charger. 12 hours later the battery status showed 78%. It was on sleep mode.

Is this normal? cheers

My battery definitely dies quickly if you turn it off. I don't have exact timings, but I assumed it was due to wifi always been on.

I think its designed to always stay switched on. Thats what I do with mine.

I'm pretty keen on the Roborock 2 but I want to get some feedback from existing users.  Looking at using it upstairs (primarily at least).  Can I rely on it to not throw itself down the stairs?

How is it likely to cope with a shaggy rug?  It's one of those annoying ones that always caterpillars up to the coffee table it sits under so it definitely wouldn't be the end of the world if we would be better off replacing it with something else.

I have a combination of carpet and tile.  Will it vacuum both or will it only do one surface?  

If it will do the tile at the same time as the carpet, the dining table and chairs are on a rug.  I gather it will be fine getting up on the rug.  The legs of the table and chairs are flat on the ground - is it likely to happily go over them (about 5mm) and just around the vertical part of the legs?

Thanks for that.  Sounds like it will be fine.  I don't think we'll bother moving it around the house as downstairs is easier to manage anyway, and we've already talked about getting a 2nd if we do want to go that way.  I'll do a little more research about the stairs but sounds like this could be a goer.  Thanks again.

We have a model one and it has never tried to commit hari kari on the stairs We LOVE this wee machine to bits!!

We are soon to move to a single story place with no steps/stairs and envisage opening all the doors and just letting 'Henry' go at it.

But we do make sure rugs with tassels, and the trailing power/charger cords, are out of the way. Just common sense.

A while later wonder how you guys are getting on with your vaccums? considering getting one. I had a roomba but got rid of it because it cost 1200 and kept getting stuck. Looking at trying one of these but I do have dark carpet

Read through the thread and you'll find a general consensus that these cleaners work very well, especially relative to price. A number, including myself, have posted that it's one of the best gadget purchases we've made. The only regret I have in regards to the purchase is not buying one sooner.

Of course it has its issues, but most are manageable. Note my comments earlier about using the cleaner in different locations (probably needing to redraw the map each time, so lose no-go zones); that it doesn't deal that well with shaggy rugs. Like the Roomba you had, the Mi/Roborock can also get stuck in places - I've had to go home a few times to sort this - but generally this can be avoided by blocking out specific areas on the map (I block out some sofas, a shaggy rug it can't cope with, and the beds - ours aren't high enough for it to do under, so getting stuck is a distinct possibility). I see the more expensive Roombas, Electroluxes etc have similar mapping features, so getting stuck may also not be such an issue with those?

Also, beware that even if areas are blocked, and furniture within such an area is moved, it can still cause problems: I moved a couch a few cms and low and behold it got stuck.

Personally, I'd like more sophisticated software - specifically, the ability to link mapping to the timers (so as to be able to schedule specific areas to be cleaned more regularly than others), but that's something that potentially may come with updates or with newer devices.

Dark carpet shouldn't be an issue, given generally owners here are happy with the quality of the vacuuming.

I was definitely convinced after reading through the thread and getting some replies to my specific questions (I also later found confirmation that they won't throw themselves down the stairs).  But I also discovered that Roomba have released 2 new models that aren't in NZ yet, and those new models are self-emptying and store maps, etc.  I think the only downside compared to the Mi was they need light to work so you wouldn't be able to run them at night (unless you schedule your lights to come on and off, and I don't have smart lights in much of the house yet).

So I'm still contemplating one of these to get going on having some of the vacuuming done, but really hanging out for the self-emptying option that must be coming soonish.  Definitely extra $$$$$, but I feel it's worth it (for me).
