Googling around, there seems to be mixed reports on the ipod/iphone charger working with the kindle.

hmmmm . . .I have a Sony Walkman USB charger at home - I wonder if that is compatible? Might have to investigate that one.

found my walkman USB charger.
Can anybody confirm if this would be fine with the kindle.

specs are

input AC 100-240V ~ 50/60Hz
10-14VA 6W

output DC5V @ 800mA

extreme left pin is - & extreme right pin is +
I would assume this is standard for all USB power?

Seems the grey DX isn't available though :( and 4GB ish of storage WTF? I have over 36GB of PDFs to read, most colour and a4 sized. At least my creaky old iRex DR1000S has a decent sized screen and take SD cards.

Anyway I am off to get an exopc tablet to replace as my ereader.

I think you need something other than a kindle then.. eink doesn't do colour yet..

Yipeeeeee, recieved my KindleDX today!!

Just trying to figure out whether I should put a fake US address and associate Kindle with it on my existing Amazon account or create a fake new US amazon account...

I put a fake US address on my Kindle account the other week and downloaded a couple of books. The next day i received an email from Kindle support inquiring about whether i'd moved as their system indicated i'd ordered a book from a NZ IP address but my postal address on system was a US one.

I haven't ordered any more since, but i would imagine they'd 'click' to what i was doing and cancel some of my sh1t.

Looks like i got away with it the once though.

I guess one way to get around this would be to use a US proxy and order books on my laptop to the PC Kindle client and then sync back to my NZ based Kindle. That would be more sensible.

Apparently this is the way to do it......

"The usual way to deal with the situation is to use an entirely different account and credit card to purchase the gift certificates.

If you haven't already done so, create a new Amazon account, with a different email address. Use that account to purchase a gift certificate, using a different credit card. The credit card does not have to have a US address (but make sure it has a genuine address).

On purchasing the gift card, choose the "Email a gift card" option, and enter the name and email address associated with your Kindle account.

Once you receive the gift card at the recipient's email address, pay it into your Kindle / Amazon account in the usual way.

This system has worked for me and many others, but you do need to be careful to keep your two Amazon persona completely separate.

Note that you can't use this system to pay for magazine subscriptions. If you try, your credit card (the one associated with your Kindle account) will be checked, and if the address you registered is not the one associated with the credit card, it will be rejected. But even so, that shouldn't affect other purchases. "

I sounds strange. Are you using the new account with a US address to buy a gift certificate and sending to your existing non-US account? Then you use your existing non-US account to buy Kindle books?

Because that's what's described, and it wouldn't make any difference, seeing the non-US account is still tied to the Kindle book.

Unless it should be done THE OTHER WAY AROUND. Then you use your existing account to send funds (through gift cards) the US account. And link that US account to your Kindle.

Can you clarify?

Edit: Just re-read it, hiccup from the start....didnt have Kindle shipped to US friend, was shipped to Aussie friend, dangggggggg. There goes that idea. Looks like its Asia/Pacific books only for me.

I just bought another eBook for my Kindle for Android delivery. Used Amazon one-click. With hundreds of thousands of titles available I really don't see the real reason for all this effort.

Just wanted to update....

Absolutely loving my Kindle!! So easy to read. When I first opened package I thought it had one of those protective covers over the screen and went to peel it off, realised it was the actual screen, this infamous e-ink. Its great.

Also....charges perfectly with my iphone power/usb adapter.
