Looks like a new Kindle Touch firmware is out.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=hp_200529680_touchupdate?nodeId=200790650

The one I purchased about a month ago from Amazon themselves shipped with v5.0.1, this update is v5.1.0 and it adds a couple of handy things, primarily landscape support.

Not sure what "Kindle Format 8" means though.

The option is there on mine, I don't have it on me to check where the option is, bit IIRC it's just in the menu options whilst reading something.

okay thanks.  I found it. Was looking in settings on main menu. Thinking it would go to landscape mode when you turn it on side as with my DX.
