Hi all,

Hopefully this is the right place to post. I am a high school teacher recently diagnosed with a voice box problem. The specialist has instructed me to get my school to purchase some kind of amplification system so that I can speak quietly but still have the needed projection and volume.

The main classroom already has some kind of Logitech computer speaker setup with a standard audio jack that normally gets plugged into the computer's headphone out. Ideally, I would like a wireless lapel microphone that could somehow plug into this setup.

So far the only appropriate things I've seen have been over$1000...and there's no way that would be funded, and plus, I won't be in teaching for much longer and the investment is really not justified.

Does anybody have any recommendations?

Wireless is for practical reasons, and lapel is simply because I don't want to wear something on my head.

Thanks in advance,

Mr T.

Hi, would one of these fill the bill

https://www.soundstore.co.nz/p-3554-sennheiser-freeport-fp12-c-lapel-radio-mic-system.aspx

Have purchased a fair amount of stuff from soundstore over the past few years including wireless mics for Gyms, I have normally gone for the sennheiser but I am sure the dB stuff is good too.

Are you a young teacher at Northcote? (Found via LinkedIn.) There is Jansen Audio in Kyber Pass (I think) for budget professional stuff. And there is Surplustronics in Queen Street for cheap unbranded stuff if really on a budget.

As an amateur sound engineer (and getting-older electronic engineer) I would highly recommend a headset mic for a classroom environment. Lapel works okay, bet a very good chance of feedback and when you turn your head it does not pick up your voice. You do get a flesh-coloured lightweight mic that clips over your ear with a thin boom to your mouth. They work great, we use them in our church. Check them out at Jansen. You should be able to get them from Rock Shop as well.

You can never have enough Volvos!
