Looking at geting a Nook Simple Touch from the UK - somewhere is selling them for a crazy 29 pounds.

The Nook can read ePub files, and I know Whitcoulls sells ePubs but sure if they are DRM'd. The only thing I can find on their website is the following blurb:

"Instant download:
This is an ebook and will be added to your 'My eLibrary' ready to download to your preferred eReading device"

This suggests to me that, once purchased, an Epub bought from there will work on any device... am I right or wrong?

I know some of you will want to tell me to buy a Kindle. And yeah, yeah. I know all about the Kindle but have a massive collection of ePubs which the Kindle won't read without me converting them, and besides -- it's 29 pounds and sounds like a great device.

So... can anyone comment on Whitcoulls ePub DRM?

To answer your question, Whitcoulls use Adobe Digital Editions for its DRM. The Nook Simple Touch can read these.

In my opinion though, you may as well shop from the "source" so to speak, and purchase ebooks directly from Kobo. The "list" price at Kobo will be the same, but Kobo often discount the price as standard, depending on the publisher.

And that's before you add 20-40% (occasionally higher :D) ebook coupons into the mix...

Ah okay so the Kobo store uses Adobe Digitals Editions, too? So I can buy from there and read on the Nook also. That's great. Also I know Christchurch city library lends eBooks in that format so Nook is looking pretty good. Thanks!

Kobo has two formats. They have their own proprietary format called "kepub", and they have Adobe DRM epubs (and DRM free epub also). Basically all standard ebooks are available as both.

Have a kindle and have converted many .epub files to .mobi easily and fast. It is not a hassle at all

I use Calibre for windows to convert them. Pretty much one button action wait a few seconds and is done
