Hi Folks

For an arduino based project I am looking for a dual display LED about 1 inch high by about 2 inches wide. The left segment has numerical output ( 1 to 9) and the right hand side displays a plus(+) or minus (-) sign.

I believe they are called 'overload' led displays but I cant seem to find them online.

Any help or pointers greatly appreciated.

That look pretty darn close :) Now for your next pull it out of the hat trick - can you find the same thing but as two individual LED's. Out of curiousity, what did you google to find them as I'll try some places closer to home first as well.

So, I've found a picture of the component as to how it should look. Unfortunately the only ones I have found have been a Texas Instruments TIL330a which is a little too small at 13mm tall characters and the attached picture of SD-5162AX from a company in HK that do minimum runs of 3000 pieces :) The + and - symbol need to be individual and more modern LED's seem to have them overlayed into the same space given modern manufacturing allows them to do that.

I've also seen dual LED chips with numbers on one side and the plus/minus 1 on the right. That would also do.

Any further help or advice appreciated. I keep running into dead ends on google.

Have you tried contacting (i.e. not just looking at their website) any of the big component distributors like Element 14 or Mouser?

Could you turn a standard display upside down and reconfigure the segment pinning?

Thanks for mouser. I also ( last twenty minutes) found out they are called single digit overflows. It would appear Mouser have them in stock...

gedc: - how would you get the symbols appearing if the led wasnt setup to display them ?

An LED display with 7 seg numerals and left +/_ when turned upside down would still have the 7 seg numerals and -/+ symbols on the right on the right hand side.

Thanks Gordy 7.. Yep. That makes sense. I was still at the trying to find the LED stage. But seem to have solved that now.

No doubt I'll be back when I can't get it to work correctly :)

No problem. It is good you found them.

The other thought I had after posting was that you should try some of the "electronics geek" forums like EEVBlog, those people are scary when it comes to "identify the component" type questions.
