The owner must have had a rough idea where they lost it, you'd think they would have gone door knocking to ask to search peoples backyards.... but then maybe they have and just hadnt made it to this house yet.

I'd be gutted if I lost one....

Arghh. People keep using "drone" when it's a quadcopter. At best a UAV.

Drone invokes missile firing, human sized UAVs that kick some extremists asses somewhere in the world, not a toy that takes pictures.

There is so much wrong information in that article I have to wonder if the reporter actually did any research at all.

1) The Vision + shown costs $1689 AUD not $800.
2) The RTH activates when the signal is lost with the controller not just if the autopilot is activated.
3) Range is far more than 300m try 500m to 700m at the low end with good line of sight if not more(http://www.flytrex.com/mission/quadcopter-rmlrf01-geoff-evans-QmPX8o99/).

There are even more issues but these are the ones that can be found out just by going to the DJI website.

We had someone knock on the door yesterday, selling aerial photographs of our property.  We actually bought one some years back, so we said no thanks.  As I remember it, we paid $50 for the last one in a frame, so that might be a potential earning opportunity for a drone owner.  On the other hand, this might specifically contravene the privacy laws they are talking about with drones, although I don't see why it would be OK for the people offering me the photo to fly over in a plane, but NOT to take the same pictures with a drone.

I see the Herald article has now been updated to say it has been returned to its rightful owner.  Bit disturbing though, that another 4 (presumably dishonest) people came forward trying to claim it was theirs.

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

Or maybe there's 4 more quadcopters lying around in the backyards of Titirangi? Could there be a "Titirangi Triangle" for quadcopters?

All it would take is one Geekzoner winning a strange and bizarre TradeMe auction, and messing with forces they don't understand, and before you know it...

Cue Twilight Zone music.

one that fires missiles would be a military drone.  you can call a non-military non-piloted unmanned aircraft a drone.  Oxford "A remote-controlled pilotless aircraft or missile" and Merriam Webster "an unmanned aircraft or ship guided by remote control or onboard computers " would agree.
