Hi,

I have just got a Vidon from Vidon.me...

Has any used or heard of these?

It is Quad-Core, 1GB DDR3 RAM, 8GB Flash Memory, Wifi, Etdhernet, Wifi, HDMI, Android device....

Just looking for any feedback or general info on it....

How does it differ from any other cheap android and kodi box? It lists 1080p on the site which is the first alarm bell that it is obsolete hardware.

Tonnes of these generic types of boxes around. It is similar specs to the Raspberry Pi 2 but I also know the Pi2 has hardware processing for video. Personally, the Amazon FireTV is one of the better choices for price since it can output 4K.

Yeah because everyone has a 4K TV

All the current ones support some form of 4k output and h265, if it lacks that then a good chance its obsolete hardware. Also the site calls it XBMC all over it. Its been kodi for 18 months so again, points to it being older stock or something.

Im not sure what that site is actually selling to be honest. Cant seem to find a price of a buy button on it. anywhere.

I have one of these on the way to me to have a play with - mainly interested in the HDMI in feature of it, if it works well enough it will replace a PC I have doing capture and free up some space.

My exp with cheaper android boxes is bugginess and poor support - and time spent faffing with fw updates etc to try and make them work better.

This thread is well worth a read in terms of these sort of boxes - the S905 ones look promising - but I will sit and wait for a few months to see who puts out a well sorted / supported box:

The other device I am tempted by is the NVidia Shield TV - more $$ - but it appears to be a very well specced box and offers what I in particular want i.e. 4k Kodi/Netflix/Youtube + HD Audio passthrough within Kodi. Q: Anyone got any NZ based exp with this device?.

PS: The Kodi team are well dark on Vidon as they aren't honouring the GPL terms which you may or may not care about. The issue with manufacturer developed Kodi branches is ongoing support as this inevitably is very short lived.

Yeah, read about it here - https://blog.danman.eu/using-tronsmart-pavo-m9-for-hdmi-input-streaming might be useful to get the output of a NVR up onto youtube since all efforts I have tried sofar have not really worked to get an IP camera up there.
