how much video you planning to watch? i used to use a sandisk sansa e260, much nicer than an ipod imho because the scroll wheel is mechanised which makes for much smoother browsing through large amounts of music and i find it runs a lot smoother. however the screens pretty small so its not much for watching video on.

the ipod touch is quite nice, nice big screen and at macworld they announced they would release a firmware update that lets the ipod touch use google maps, email and (correct me if im wrong) wifi, if i remember right, they'll be charging a small fee for the firmware update (USD$10??).

i am quite a fan of the Archos portable media players. hugh capacities and they're made for watching movies on with huge, bright, vibrant screens. i came very close to buying their PMA400 which was perfect except for a few features like the wifi had dreadful range and they didn't back it enough outside of the UK and Asia.

i'm not sure if they mentioned what brand of player it was for but recently Nvidia unveiled their new gui and it looks ten times better than the iphone/ipod touch gui so check that out if you can. (plenty of videos on youtube)

That was for previous owners of the iPod Touch. All new ones from factory after the announcement will already come with it (and also they discounted them for the NZ market at the announcement as well).

Also, the iPod Touch can be hacked with custom firmware to allow you to put nearly anything on it.

A workmate of mine had a NES emulator on his. Was great for jamming on Mario during lunch breaks =]

That's called jailbreaking.
