It is limit 1 per person from the Raspberry Pi foundation at the moment due to demand more so everyone can get one - don't cheat the system. I bought one from the PiHut and it arrived yesterday (took 4 days to ship to me) and total cost with the essentials kit was $49.99NZD:

It's it great that there is such a demand for them that they struggle to supply.

Vs lots of pi sitting in shelves in an atmosphere of disinterest.

I'm actually buying for myself and other friends who all want a Pi zero w. I/we are just trying to save costs on delivery.

I'm planing on using it for a kitchen dashboard which I have already built using the PI3. But I want a smaller form factor.

Going to be putting it inside my Squeezebox Radio and run the Squeezebox server on it to make an all-in-one unit. The WiFi on the Squeezebox doesn't work and is only 802.11G so the Pi will be perfect for the task (also ordered a Micro USB to Ethernet cable). These Pi's are great and I wish I could get more but going to respect the foundation and just wait until demand dies down.

I've found the Zero-W to be totally fine with WiFi in my environment (UniFi AC-Pro) with no problems. Mind you, I live in a very small house but would say it wouldn't be as good as some bigger boards. My FLAC collection is going to be stored on it anyway since I have less than 30gb worth now so will be fine for the Squeezebox Radio.

I got a Pi Zero W from modmypi in the UK. Together with some other components it wasn't that expensive and shipping to NZ was cheap and surprisingly fast!

The WiFi reception is pretty good I am using it as a Flightradar/Flightaware box at the moment and it's sitting outside on my balcony in a waterproof box about ~15 meters away from my router and the signal is still very stable. Probably has to go with the fact that it's 2.4GHz WiFi too

quick update: I was able to order two RPI Zero W boards from CanaKit when I ordered the Starter Kit. Plus for an addition $3.80 USD, I was able to get the Official Raspberry Pi Power Supply which comes with AU/NZ power plug.

The starter kit includes:

Raspberry Pi Zero Wireless Board
Official Raspberry Pi Zero Case
8 GB Class 10 MicroSD Card
1A Power Supply (or Official Raspberry Pi 3 Adapter, extra $3.80 USD)
USB OTG Cable
Mini HDMI Adapter

All round, I believe this was the best value for money and delivery was $16 USD.

Its more the orentation than the output from it. Turning it a few degrees from not working will give a working quite well. Its the bane of single chain wifi devices, but it seems that its worse on the pi zero than a standard ceramic chip antenna. Still, a nice cost saving antenna and much smaller than the usual squiggly F shaped traces most things use.

Personally I think Raspberry Pi's are no longer such good value, plus now that they need cooling, they kinda aren't what they are supposed to be... A board that's touted as a $5 computer costs $50... I've got 3, V1 B+ pi's and they are rock solid, require no cooling, and where good value at the time.

There are some other much cheaper options out there that might, or might not suit some jobs, e.g. Orange Pi running Armbian, might be a good alternative (look to AliExpress to buy).

Obviously Raspberry Pi have good support and expansion accessories, but much of it can be used on other boards and OS's for other boards has pretty much caught up now...

Last time I ordered something from Aussie that was just sent over by post in an A5 padded envelope it was about $14 shipping so I expect that the UK will still be cheaper. If only they were available out of China.
