Off the back of https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=85&topicid=223150  I'll open this for looking at new trackers.

I currently have  GPS103b that goes into GPSGate using what they call the Xexun protocol.

Which looks like this:

Client: ##,imei:123456789123456,A;
Client: imei:123456789123456,tracker,170916225204,,F,225204.000,A,4112.9668,S,17454.1571,E,25.51,326.61;
Client: imei:123456789123456,tracker,170916225219,,F,225219.000,A,4112.8803,S,17954.0847,E,25.85,327.67;

So obviously looking for replacements, if possible same protocol.

Will look at a couple and see if I can find one.  If you're interested, chime in.

I prefer those with the external GPS antenna.  Only because I put the device in the rear boot of a station wagon, and put the antenna in the quarterlight.

Might wait for the 11.11 sale and buy then.

So I ended up with this one.

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Waterproof-3G-GPS-tracker-T8124G-antenna-with-good-extension-of-the-signal/32815110144.html

After a few restarts I've got it to the point where it's working.  Weirdly unlike my other it doesn't default to quite a fast update time, but I've worked that out.  Also inserting and trying to use an SD card I'd thought it would only use the SD card when out of mobile signal....but it seemed to kill the upload process.

Also the Ip address update command isn't documented.  But I know that now.

Thanks for the update. So you have it publishing updates to your local server now?

Yeah the GPSGate one I run.  Protocol is called kingneed.  I think traccar also supports it.

As I was having issues that I thought was connectivity, mines exposed (in the back of the car), but that was that SD cad problem.  So now I can put it in properly.

Also it was unclear if this had a battery....and it doesn't.  And unlike my old one isn't designed to be wired in to an always on connection.  It just comes with a 2 wire connection (which I put on to a cigarette lighter).  Someone smarter than me would have to figure out an always on connection, for say the car being towed (with power off).

How long does it take on startup before it acquires a GPS/3G signal and is able to report your location?

A few seconds...I have mine on a 20 second collection/upload....it defaults to collects six positions, but only uploading every minute...which was a weird backward step after my other one.

Yeah the lack of battery/wiring in a to an always on circuit kind of annoys as that was one think I was going to look at with a new tracker over my old one.  But oh well.
