Hi all,

I have a garage door opening system from Automatic Technology Australia (ATA), model GDO-2v7. I am very keen to add it to my home automation list, using Apple Home Kit on the Apple TV. I have been reading up on this MyQ product which sells on Amazon for $80 US: https://www.amazon.com/Chamberlain-Smart-Garage-Opener-MYQ-G0301/dp/B075H7Z5L8/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&qid=1525467201&sr=8-4&keywords=smart+garage+door+opener&linkCode=sl1&tag=hoistnow-20&linkId=a75e62a92c6f54ab8ef37ad57b058d72

Does anyone have any experience with this, and any recommendation on whether this will be compatible with my garage system?

Or if you have any other recommendations to achieve the same (other than installing a whole new garage opening system), that would be great.

Thanks!

Does your system operate by a wall switch which is just hooked up to two connection and a simple button completes the circuit? If so there are numerous DIY options you can go for, if you are happy with that approach. If you have a house alarm you can also hook it up to that. I'm not aware of off the shelf solutions but I'm sure they exist.

I use https://opengarage.io/

Works great. I have integrated with Home Assistant with no problems.

Cheers, Matt

I've built my own DIY solution for my Guardian garage door opener.   Have been working flawlessly for 2 years now.

I have to disable the automated closing part of it for safety reasons.  However I am actively using the remote closing/opening and only after verifying through the live camera that it's safe to open/close.

Thanks! I will review that - being not very technical, was this hard to install?

No. Not hard to install. Screw to the roof, plug in a USB power supply and run two wires to the back of the opener. The instructions were fine to follow. I used the blynk app for a while but home assistant interface is better.

Cheers, Matt

Buying one of the wemo makers is the problem though. Wemo seems to have disappeared from the New Zealand market

Hm, I would prefer a more plug and play type approach, hence my interest in the MyQ option. I am not sure if I get it to work otherwise :-).

However, I really appreciate the answers and will properly look into them to see if I think I can do it. Other than that still keen to hear if anyone has any experience with the MyQ option in NZ...

I don't know how more it simple can be, just connect and its ready to go, of course you need internet in your garage. :)

Just nervous that I can't get the wiring done... And on top of that they don't seem available to buy anymore...

There is an Opengarage App for phones too which is very simple and clean.

I also like the Homeassistant interface which can show if a car is in the garage too.
