I currently live in an apartment and would like to install a couple of CCTV cameras. What I am looking for can be plugged to mains BUT should be able to connect to the internet wirelessly e.g. not LAN. Any recommendation is highly appreciated. I have considered this https://www.mi-store.co.nz/product/QDJ4041GL/Mi-Home-Security-Camera but missed out on their opening sale. Is it any good or any other model?

That's only got WiFi connectivity, so is still going to connect to your LAN.

If you want something not on your LAN, you'll probably need to get a 3G/4G router to go with it.

I thought you can connect it to the home wifi router wirelessly then view from an app? Or did I get it wrong?

No - you didnt get it wrong.

You want wifi cameras and dont want to connect them with a cable - That seems clear enough.

Runningman is being a bit pedantic in that wifi connections still connect to you Local Area Network - or maybe thought you wanted a completely standalone system..

How about wyzecams https://www.wyzecam.com/

You would need to buy them via amazon.com as wyze dont ship to NZ but Amazon do.

I bought a couple late last year - pretty neat little things - work well.

EDIT: Yep - You can access them remotely. They have an SD card for local recording and automatically upload 'events' to a cloud for up to 14 days - free.

No ongoing costs.

Yep, thought you were meaning it was remote from your LAN, so out of WiFi range, hence needing a 3G/4G connection. If it's in WiFi range, that's a whole lot easier.

@robjg63 thanks. will look into that one.

So my plan is to get at least 2 and connect them wirelessly to my home router and be able to view it remotely. Best if there is a movement sensor that can alert me close to real time. Also if it can be scheduled e.g. only record when I want to.
