I awoke this morning to constant clicking and fan noises from my network cupboard. It seems that my UPS is flicking onto battery backup for a second or two and back onto mains for no apparent reason every couple of minutes. There were over 900 events on the display which clocks at 999.

The unit has been turned off and I'm now at work so I can't do anything, but I'm curious, has anyone had this happen?

This is the model. Around 2 years old I think.

Cheers

Check that there isn't a fault with your wiring or the power from the street. Maybe the UPS is simply doing its job.

If you have non dimmable LED or CFL lights in your house. You wont get flickering or dimming lights as a warning about major electrical faults.

Try taking it to a friends house, and see if it behaves the same.

I'll do that, thanks. It's currently at home with the battery unplugged, akin to a hard reset. Here's to hoping this was an isolated external event last night and not an issue with house wiring. I suppose it's the time of year for mice to make their way inside and start chewing on stuff.....

Reporting back. Your assessment was spot on @Aredwood. There was progression today such that there had been multiple phase drops while I was at work. The nice person from Powerco has just popped in and showed me a melted conglomeration of insulation and a stuffed looking pole fuse that had been moving in the breeze until it eventually gave up. UPS was just doing its job.

Thanks for your input.
