I have been using Life 360 for location detection but I see some concerns about the company selling data to 3rd parties so I am thinking of ditching it. Any suggestions on alternatives? I just need to know if I am approaching or leaving my home location with an accuracy of a few hundred meters.

Thanks.

The Home Assistant android app offers heaps of sensors including location, speed etc.

I am using Life360 as well and with the advertising drama was looking at swapping to the app.

I am probably stuck though as some of the family members are deep into the Life360 experience.

Cheers, Matt

That sounds interesting, any links on how to set up?

Have you tried the Home Assistant mobile app? Location works done for me.

Yup just another +1 for the Home Assistant app. Works really well. Tag your locations with names, and do automations in HA based on state changes.

OK, in the mobile app I have enabled Background Location, Location Zone and Single Accurate Location, is that all I need?

I was using Life360, but recently they got stung for selling users' location data (there's a surprise, I hear you say), so I've uninstalled everything, and am now just using HA app built-in location feature:
