hey,

we have an old nano we've had for years, now it is time to upgrade. we are thinking of getting an ipod touch and would like to hear what people think about it? is it worth the extra money compared to the classic or new nanos? how easy is it to put films on it? what games can you put on it?

my other really important questionn is will it be ok to have a new ipod for itunes? our current ipod is from maybe 2004 and it needs replacing, but i don't want to start itunes from scratch! it would take weeks and weeks to put everything back on!

1. You put movies on it like you do now - via iTunes.
2. You don't need to rebuild your music collection - you just resync your music playlists (unless you are manually managing music, which means that you will be re-ordering, -adding, -syncing your whole collection)
3. Extra money - still is, but it's getting cheaper.
4. Games? Check out the App Store.

Yep - as manhinli says, just plug it into your current iTunes and sync it. Easy as that. Have an iPod Touch here and it's a great toy! Movies are really easy to load onto it and there's some quite cool apps you can download onto it as well.

You'll also need to get a ripper that can copy your existing movies to the correct format at a reasonable speed. There's quite a few around, but video/audio syncing is a major problem for most of them. I use Xilisoft DVD Platinum Ripper 4 and have never had a problem with it.

Of course, you can buy or rent movies quite cheaply from the iTunes store as well...

Wireless is simple to use, as long as yor network is broadcasting it's SSID. If it's not, your iPod won't connect as you can't enter a network name into it manually - at least not as far as I could find.

If you're using MAC address filtering on your router, just add the Touch's MAC address to the allow list, make sure wireless is switched on at both your router and iPod and away you go.

Websites, email etc really easy to access and read due to the zoom feature available.

i guess i wanted to know exactly what the wireless does and how you use it? would it connect to your wireless network at home for instance? not that i have one! can only connect using a tstick. might just have to pay a visit to town to check out the touch and new nanos or classic.
