Been googling, reading forums, checking pricespy, and at this stage I'm after an advice from fellow humans.

Requirements:

- Wireless

- Battery-operated

- Outdoor

- Works with Synology Surveillance

- Preferably WiFi but base station is ok too

- Not Eufy

- Price - sub-$300

Would appreciate any suggestions.

Wireless / Battery and works with Synology are likely never going to happen. The way battery operated cameras work is they go into a deep sleep to conserve battery power but the synology expects them to be available at all times. If you want it to work with the synology you’ll need to go wired (powered).

Honestly, Eufy is your best option. It works well and ticks all your boxes as you could store recordings on your synology. I wouldn’t personally use the synology security software with them however.

Honestly Eufy is your only option to meet that extensive list of requirements.  I setup my Eufy Cams with Synology but it's not practical with battery powered cameras.

Someone has to ask, why not Eufy?

Everyone is now saying rip out your Eufy gear - https://www.androidcentral.com/accessories/smart-home/throw-away-all-your-eufy-cameras-right-now

In the past few days or so they have removed all their privacy statements etc.

I have some Reolink POE cameras that work with Synology. Battery powered is not an option due to Synology's always on requirement, but they tick the rest of your requirements. If you go POE then there are plenty of options.

Here is the official Synology support list: https://www.synology.com/en-us/compatibility/camera?brand%5B%5D=Reolink

But reading through the Synology forum "Any camera that supports ONVIF or RTSP will work even if not on the official support list by synology."

Good luck

I am really no bothered if the folks at Eufy or any of their agents can see my driveway from the POV of the garage.

That's basically what it does - gives a view of my short driveway and our cars. I could happily have the whole world watch and they'd learn virtually nothing - other than that I arrive in the drive laden with food...often.

It’s a good time to buy second hand from people over reacting.

If you have internet connected cameras in areas you want to keep private more fool you. You’ll inevitably have some form of data breach.

Just moved into a new house and I am not at all familiar with security camera systems but this system is installed https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/CCTSWN2405/Swann-2MP1080p-4-Channel-DVR-Security-System-DVR-4 . Seems to go ok so far, will still have to play around, the outdoor cameras are installed under the eves so I assume they are not waterproof. They are wired not wireless and not sure if they work with synology, looks like they can be connected to the internet but have only just got around to getting internet in so haven't connected the DVR to it yet.

Any advice with this system would be appreciated or should I start another thread?

Using a Reolink RLC-510A via PoE and Synology survelliance station. Works well, the picture quality is very good day and night.

Thanks for everyone's feedback. I thought the challenge about my aversion to Eufy was a valid one. They did patch up they firmware, and was it really that bad in the first place?

So now I'm a proud owner of an Eufy 2c Pro x3 kit. Well, not really proud.

2 of the 3 cameras keep going offline. Everything worked just fine for a month, and then all of a sudden - they started dropping off. Resyncing or removing and reattaching the cameras only works for a few minutes, and they drop off again. It's not a coverage issue - when they're connected they show full coverage, and one of the cameras is just 4 meters from the base station. Not a battery issue either - both are fully charged. Eufy support are useless - their advice is to remove and reattach the camera which I've already done multiple times.

Can't find anything online that could help, so if there are any other Eufy users out there who know what might be going on here - please share your thoughts.

That’s a weird one , I had an issue with one camera what it turned out to be was that I had a faulty Ethernet cable the system wouldn’t add it in the end after the drop offs. Got the sparky back to test cable reset and it came right. You can get a refund or get them to be sent off to look at, the retailer sent it back to eufy and they apparently tested it. It did take 6 weeks but it was a spare camera . Mabey get a refund and try another set
