Hello,

I have a Paradox alarm wired to power.  Ive noticed it has a trouble 2 code which i have read up and seems to be something to do with power.

I did notice when the power did go out the alarm would not work at all.

I have replaced the backup battery in the panel, done a power reset and still trouble 2 code is there.

Had a look at the fuse and it is all good.

Any ideas team before I call an expert?

Cheers

I replaced my Paradox battery a few months ago when TBL lights 2 & 8 indicated a flat battery/timer loss, and it was a smooth process.  My only guess is that the battery you chose may not be properly charged, faulty, incorrectly wired, the incorrect type, or a loose connection to the PCB.  Either that or you have a more fundamental fault that requires a tech.

In case it helps, here's how I did mine.  The old battery was a Saturn MZ12030 sealed lead acid (12V, 3.0Ah/20hr).  I chose to replace it with a physically bigger Solution SA12-7 12V 7.0Ahr AGM Sealed Lead Acid Battery from PB Tech.  It still fitted in the box ok.

Reinstallation
•    Turn off Paradox power
•    Install wires on correct terminals
•    Clip to PCB, ensuring it clips firmly into place
•    Close up
•    Power up
•    TBL light 2 should have gone out
•    Set date & time
•    TBL light 8 should have gone out

Good luck!

Is there a chance there’s a battery in the siren too?

otherwise, what happened when you armed and disarmed a few times?

to normally clear trouble codes, don’t you need to press TBL, then CLEAR?

Thanks for the replies team

I have replaced the battery once before at an old house and was a simple process so I was surprised that this didn't work.

Purchased a battery from a battery specialist and have just noticed the old battery Saturn MZ12030 sealed lead acid (12V, 3.0Ah/20hr) was slightly different to the new one Power sonic PS1230 (12V, 3.4Ah/20hr).  Surely should not make a difference?

Checked the voltage on the battery seems like its charged and all wires seem ok.

Maybe I forgot to turn the power off when I was changing the alarm cause the tamper alarm did go off....

Alarm works perfectly fine can arm and disarm ok, only thing is when the power goes out the backup battery does not power the alarm so no alarm.

Looks like might have to get the specialist in...

You dont need to downpower the alarm to replace the battery.

With the panel not getting power on mains fail it can be a couple of things, battery, wiring between battery and PCB, or a PCB fault which means a new PCB.

If you plug the battery in backwards it can torch the PCB.

Once the battery has been replaced arm then disarm the alarm, most alarms perform a self check on arm and disarm for basic faults.

If its a modern ish panel (MG5500, MG5050) when you press trbl and 2 shows, press 2 and 1, or 2 or 3 will show what kind of power fault you have.

Im wondering if when connecting the battery wire to the white connector (sorry not very technical) I had tried it the wrong way first maybe this is what causing the issues....

Just found another fuse on top of the battery connector wire and the fuse is ok.

I have the paradox SP5500 i think when I push trbl 2 shows up, then i pressed 2 and then 1 showed up

A 3.4Ah battery won't make a difference. The 12V spec and correct polarity is critical, but Ah just relates to capacity. I used a 7Ah battery with no issues.

Thanks for all the help team, used my multimeter and battery measures 12.4v unconnected. Also with just wire connected to battery but not to panel is measures 12.4 so wire is also ok.

Is it the PCB? Alarm still works just not when power is cut

We had this same issue. Turns out to be the battery in the external light/siren box (who even knew!!). Rather than just replace we got the alarm guy to bypass this battery and wire back to the one in the alarm panel.

Hope this helps

Some batteries can take a bit to kickin in sitting a while, check battery terminal are tight when connecting and no corrosion from old battery, trouble 2 is power then again to power trouble location 1 is panel back up battery, 2 ac fail, 3 auxiliary overload etc, if you have a siren with back up battery the will sound when system is turned off

Heya Team,

So had a look at external outdoor siren couldn't find a battery so assuming running off main power?

Have had battery in there for a couple days and still same fault. Did notice the charge light on the pcb did turn on not to sure if this is a good sign or not. Doesn't turn on when no battery is connnected.

Did also notice a slight mark on battery not sure if this affects anything at all

Stumped....

The battery looks damaged inside, 12v battery has multiple batteries in series, the charge light on the panel will turn on when battery is connected

Take some good photos of the wiring if you can.

i.e. Stand back a bit…show us the entire board as close as you can to capture everything (and a photo of the wiring from mains wire to the board, and wire from the board to the battery.

Came across this thread.  Looking at replacing my paradox battery.  Does anyone know the type of terminals?  Are they f1 or f2 -  the difference is in the width.

Was looking at https://www.thebatterycellonline.co.nz/product/12v-3.2Ah-AGM-Battery-CP1232. As it’s local.  Jaycar only had a 1.3ah battery around the same physical size.  I can’t really go for taller due to how busy my box is.

ive not had any warnings I’m aware of.  We just noticed the battery was quite warm. Almost hot.   Only thing I can think of is it’s age.  Which would be over 5 years
