Thanks to my friends stupidity, my Ipod broke. I'll spare you the details but safe to say i had to send it in to apple for a new one, since it was still under warranty. The new one arrived today with a letter saying it was formatted for Mac OS X and telling me how to make it work with windows XP. Unfortunately, the instrutions don't work. The IPod Updater does not detect my new ipod and will not let me restore it, even in disk mode. I know my USB works because my IPod charges. Any ideas what the problem is? Any help would be appreciated.

bad luck that. does it not even detect the drive when plugged in? perhaps if you uninstall and re-install the pc component, it may detect it? or sell it to an os owner, or take it to one and try to see if it works on there.

if you're running winXP, there's an ipod plugin for winamp.

You might be able to format using that..

If it's not helpful, then you might find a friendly computer store that'll format it for you. Here in NZ Noel Leemings does a FAT formatting service for windows users.
