Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone can suggest some suitable headphones for my ipod.
I have been using the JVC marshmellow headphones (http://av.jvc.com/product.jsp?modelId=MODL028440&pathId=98&page=1) and they have been wondering full, apart from 1 problem, the 3.5mm connection is straight and not right angled. This means that the connection starts to break after about 5 - 6months of use. Since they were fairly cheap I wasn't that bothered (you could pick up 2 for $30 from harvey norman).

Now it seems you can't get these headphones, so I was thinking of getting something like them, but with a right angle connection. Its kinda hard, cause a lot of the websites only show pictures of the buds and not the 3.5mm connection. I did find the Sennheiser CX series 200 or 300 series (http://www.computerlounge.co.nz/components/componentview.asp?partid=8302) or (http://www.computerlounge.co.nz/components/componentview.asp?partid=3075). I didn't really want to spend that much though (although it looks like you can pick them up on trademe cheaply (http://www.trademe.co.nz/Electronics-photography/iPod-MP3-accessories/Headphones/auction-281877404.htm)

I was also wondering if the logitech ultimate ears have the reinforced right angle 3.5mm connection (http://www.acquire.co.nz/acquire/default.asp?PageID=ProductDetail&pf_id=1523635&dept_id=3600111)

nevermind about the logitech ultimate ears, it appears that they only come with a straight 3.5mm plug:

You're limiting yourself bad if you need to find a right-angle plug for the headphones. Have you thought about using a right-angle 3.5mm adaptor like http://www.dse.co.nz/dse.shop/en/product/P6620 ?

If you search around maybe you'll find a lower-profile one or if you don't mind the length, you may be able to purchase a 1m right-angle plug to straight socket extension (similar to what I received with my Sony ear buds)

I've had several pairs of Ultimate Ears and never had a problem with the straight-out plug/wire.

I am thinking that potentially you're just too hard on them.

All of the good headphones that I've used have a straight-out plug, but with varying degress of robustness at the cable anchor points.

My old Sennheiser PX200s had a plug that had extremely strong looking anchor points and they lasted me five years, and would have lasted much longer had I not chosen to upgrade them. My new PXC250s (basically the same model but with noise cancelling) have the same strong anchor points at the earpieces and Noisegard module, but the plug has a much cheaper appearance. Time will tell, but I have enough confidence in Sennheiser that I'm not too worried about it. It may actually be reinforced internally.

Some headphones, Bose being a good example, allow the entire cable to be easily replaced if the cable or plug gets damaged so that might be another option for you.
