Hi,
I reset my ipod touch and reconnected it to a computer with a backup on it but it will not appear in itunes or in my comuter. The computer shows no sign of recognising it in any way. However when i plug it in the ipod does turn on and display the apple logo for about 5 secs then disappears until i press i button. Any ideas?

If you go to Device Manager (Right click My Computer > Properties) does it show up under Portable Devices? Also, could you please tell us what operating system are you running (+ 32/64 bit if you know).

Is the screen you see when pressing a button the "unlock" screen (with or without battery charging icon) or is it the "plug into computer and open iTunes" screen?

No it doesn't show up in device manager. I'm running Window7 64 bit, and it isn't the unlock screen or the connect to itunes screen. All it shows is the apple logo. I just found it only shows this logo when i press the home and power button simultaneously.

The following steps will wipe your iPod so make sure you do have a backup waiting on a computer. I think you mentioned you did have one in your first post.

As per http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1173764&tstart=45
1) Press and hold both the Home button adn the Power button for a couple of seconds. It should reboot and show the Apple logo. Do not let go.
2) When the logo comes up, release the Power button. You should only be pressing the Home button now.
3) After one or two seconds, the original image that was presented on the iPod when you turned it on for the first time will show up: the iTunes logo with a sync cable underneath it.
4) Connect the iPod to iTunes. It will ask you to restore the iPod. Say yes and begin the whopping 150MB download for the iPod restore app.
5) Wait a couple of minutes until it does it's thing, then rejoice.
If you have the iPod plugged into the computer when you do this, during step 3 the computer should make a beeping sound in recognition of the iPod.

You also mentioned that you only got the apple logo to show by holding both buttons at once for a while. What I quoted above is pretty much the same thing but holding buttons for longer and then letting go of power button while home button is still being pressed.

I hope this helps. Since I haven't had this exact problem myself, I don't know whether the steps will work or not.
