So we can order Kindle 3 in both WiFi and 3G/Wifi flavours/flavors.

So why not Kindle DX?

It can't be a carrier issue surely? It can't be a licensing issue surely?

No idea why, but I got mine shipped to a friend in Aussie who then sent it on to me.

That was the first Kindle.

I then thought I had lost my Kindle (9 days of searching) so I ordered another one. Got this one sent to a friend in US who then sent it on to me. Worked out the same price to send from Aussie to NZ as it did from US to NZ.

I wonder if if it has anything to do with sales taxes ie. GST?

Kindle 3s are exempted from GST and duties because they fall under the threshold if imported for personal use.

But all DXs come in over the $50 GST/duties applicable so require to be charged.

I note that if you put 2 Kindle 3s into your shopping cart, you are charged "prepaid taxes and duties" by Amazon (ie. customs clearance fees), so obviously they are set up for this. But unsure why DX doesn't ship really :/

I believe the reason is a mixture of copyright and marketing reasons since once of the major selling points of the Kindle DX are subscriptions to magazines/newspapers, which is not present in NZ.

Remember Kindles are sold with little or no profit and it would make no sense to ship them to places where people are unlikely to pay for books and subscriptions.

I have a white Kindle DX international (bought in the US) which works here with good 3G coverage, however there are extra charges for wireless delivery in NZ.

No WiFi in the DX?

I guess you can still transfer files via the USB cable right?

The current versions of Kindle DX has no wifi. USB drag and drop transfer works fine.
