Hey folks,

Just thought I would let everyone know that I have succesfully updated my iPhone to 1.1.3.

Here's what I had, what I did and how it went.

Firstly, I started off with an unlocked 1.1.2 phone. This was originally bought as a 1.02 (not a 1.1.2 OTB)

I updated Installer and BSD subsystem to the latest versions which are

I uninsatalled all my existing apps and backed up my custom icons i.e youtube and maps icons.

Once everything was unsinstalled set the phone to "Autolock Never" went into installer refreshed the sources and installed "1.1.3 Jailbreak DevTeam"

It takes you through a number of warnings and then does it's thing. After approx 30 mins the phone restarted itself and took me to the lock slider screen. I slid to unlock and voila I was on 1.1.3 unlocked on Vodafone NZ.

Now what works and what doesn't:

iTunes Wifi store 100% working, Ringtones working, Installer working, Hybrid view working, Voicemail working, e-mail working, Youtube working, GPRS working, Wiggly icons are working, Webclips are working, Sync with itunes working i tunes says that software is up to date!! Google Maps Locate WORKING.... I installed "LocateMe" from installer ran it once then used google maps to loacte and it worked. I then uninstalled "LoacteMe" and it still works, Multi SMS working, received by both parties one on Voda one on Telecom

ALL customisations are gone, glad I backed up those icons!

So in summary 1.1.3 is nice and easy to upgrade to as long as you have an unlocked and jailbroken 1.1.2 phone.

I have updated the ".co.nz" & "com.au" keyboard hack so it works with 1.1.3 and the downloads can be founf over at Linka.co.nz

If you don't want to do it the easy way through installer then the are the "manual" instructions here

UPDATE:

TV Out now works without the need for an Apple Dock to RGB/Component Cable. You can use your standard 3.5mm to RGB cables, you know, the ones you bought to use with your old iPod video that don't work on previous firmwares.

Yahoo! Xtra Mail can be set up under the mail account as a "Yahoo! Mail" account rather than "Other"

Did you still have to edit the plist file for phone number format when you upgraded to 1.1.3?

No that still works. I have noticed though that if you reboot your phone you have to run LocateMe again to get Google Locate to work, it doesn't save the information.

I'm on 1.1.1 and I'm trying to sus out what I have to do to get to 1.1.3

Also how did you backup your icons?

You need to go to 1.1.2 first and then go to 1.1.3 from there. The hard part is going to 1.1.2, the easiest thing I have done so far is go to 1.1.3, just use installer, follow the instructions it gives you and 20-30 minutes later you're done.

When going from 1.1.1 you need to know a few of things:
1. How your phone was unlocked (i.e do you need to virginize)
2. What your Modem Firmware is i.e 04.01.18_G or 04.02.13_G or 03.xxxxxx (where x's are numbers)
3. Is your IMEI number the same in the system prefs as it is on the baack of the phone.

I had a problem yesterday, I was deleting old files and deleted the wrong one after going to 1.1.3 DUH!! and spent (without exageration) from 16:30 until 03:30 (yes eleven hours) trying to downgrade, unlock, upgrade etc. I had to go right back to 1.0.2 then ->1.1.1->1.1.2->1.1.3. I know it can be done quicker than that, I was having a bad day. But what I am trying to say is, be patient. Before you start make sure you have said goodnight to the wife and kids and you have nothing else to do for the rest of the day.

There are plenty of tutorials out there on how to do it, google search for them, just look for the tutorials written by or on behalf of the official dev team. Follow them to the word and you should be right.

As for backing up the icons, I access the file system, go into each app that I have ac ustom icon for and download the icon.png to my computer.

As with the 1.1.2 upgrade the only other thing you have to do for 1.1.3 is patch your AppSupport file for CallerID to work. Luckily this time around the process for this is a lot simpler too. And the developer has even included a phone numbers template for NZ :)

In saying all that though (above), I have actaully reverted to 1.1.2 as I believe there is a proper (through iTunes) upgrade process on the horizon (http://hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=25185). The current one is only a soft-upgrade i.e. it does not upgrade your baseband.

At this stage it looks like it only works for <= 1.1.1 OTB's IPSF unlocked phones. I haven't seen any reports for AnySIM unlocks.

from I've been told I've got a OTB 1.1.1 bootloader version 3.9.

The voicemail alerts thing is really annoying me. plus it would be nice to do the other little things in the .2 and .3 releases.

I'm holding on to 1.1.1 for a while longer - call me a wus!

There is a fix on installer that permits an SMS upgrade to the 1.1.2 SMS app, that sorts out your voicemail alerts. Also, I set up (via vodafone voicemail setup) "call notification" so that my voicemail calls me and passes on the message. So, someone leaves a message, my phone rings and it's vodafone voicemail delivering said message. It's how they used to do it prior to the days of SMS (Bell South??).

Guess what, since they call you, not you calling them, no 20c charge for voicemail to you! I know it's only twent cents but better in my pocket I guess.

Are you sure you can use the headphone socket? My understanding of this is that you still need a dock connector, just that more of them (ie. the ipod ones) work now.

Thnaks for the info lyall as I too was not happy with missing voice messages (1.1.1) however I just tried to setup Voice notification forwarding back to your mobile number (callback) and the Vodafone system said that these calls are charged at your normal call plan rate.. you might want to check it out - better than getting a big bill huh.

Im holding off the 1.1.2 and 1.1.3 upgrade - but not for much longer, the methods appear to have matured and the bugs ironed out!!

You used to be able to plug your 3.5mm into the back of the dock and that would do video out (on the old video iPods), with the iPhone and Touch you weren't able to do that, you had to buy the specific cable from apple that had a "Dock Connector" on one end and RGB/Component on the other. Not anymore, now you can just plug the "3.5mm - RGB/Component" cable into the back of the dock.

It's still fussy about what type of dock you use though. I went to the Warehouse at the weekend and bought a Cascade branded iPod dock that does audio and video out, only to find that it would only do audio out for my iPod Touch. Was a bit disappointed, but for $29 its still a steal even for just audio, plus it has a remote which lets you skip tracks etc.
