Looking to pickup an iPad for my daughter and noticed that Apple are running a "university" promo at the moment with AirPods included.

Question is do Apple verify this when purchasing in NZ?   I've used the education discount back in the UK years ago but that was when I was doing evening study courses so this was covered but not sure how it works in NZ.   Yes my daughter isn't in Uni but is in higher education, so just wondering I we can risk the University promo or just do the regular education discount.

Not sure about Apple but I know I’m the past you had to have a .edu email or similar to get some MS discounts.

I’ve used it a few times before, last time was in early 2021 during the same promotion, and have never been asked to verify or prove anything.

I believe Samsung is the same for their education discount programme. A bit of a silly idea as I still have an active .ac.nz address from an institution I studied at 15+ years ago which, to this day, forwards to my personal address. Hence I have access to these discount programs.

A few comments from this thread on Cheapies from July 2022:

No, anyone can get Apple education store pricing. They don't check anything.

No checks. I have bought couple of ipads from edu store without any problems. Used my regular apple account.

Purchased an iPad Pro yesterday, using the education offer at the moment - didn't need to provide details regarding my current university enrolment.

Can confirm the Samsung store doesn't need any verification.

I have wondered though - would there be any issue in the case of warranty claim?

Question is, if you can't 'prove' you are a student, then why are you taking advantage of the discount meant to apply to EDU? :)

How much is the Edu discount ?

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

The problem with abusing a system to your advantage is that if enough people do it, the company providing them decides it's bad for business and then drops that promotion or does something else ala Netflix right now, and then everyone whines, and cries...

The OPs daughter is at high school, so should get educational discount- it's just a question about needing to prove it.

Well, if his kids a student, she has all the proof she needs, surely? If they verify it or they don't, won't matter.

It's because she's in high school, but the current education promo if you go to the edu store is for uni students.   So I wanted/needed to by before the current promo ends at the end of March anyway, so I wanted to see if it would be an issue if I ordered for a HS student when they were running a special promo for UNI students.

Ordered last week and came through OK, no verification needed.

it’s typically 10-11% and maybe a freebie (like airpods)

given the absence of a decent alternative supply in nz (Pbtech is about the only one I know) compared to other countries who have Amazon and Mac resellers, every discount is worth it.

unidays also does deals for students and is better than expected but not a panacea of discount…!
