In a nutshell, I spent 4 days without a number because the guy at FIRST MOBILE WESTCITY completely stuffed up the transfer between the normal sim an micro sim. At one stage during my argument with the store manager I was told that I should be glad I had an iphone, even though it wasn't working. My 21st was on the weekend that it happened so it was a huge inconvenience.
Once vodafone IT fixed the mistake I went to vodafone lynmall and explained the story, they wiped the $30 for a new micro sim and it was all fixed.
moral of story. I don't know, according to my old man I shouldn't of bought a new phone right before my birthday!

I had the same problem with the transfer to a micro sim. But Manukau Vodafone by BK were great, first my partner and I were on a waiting list, and when we called them Friday they put aside 2 32g iphone 4s for us. Then when the transfer did not work, they gave me a prepaid sim, and added $20 top up onto the sim for the 4 days I would be without my contract sim. Each time we went into the shop to inquire if they have the iphone 4 they were very nice to us. I know they had alot of people coming in all day asking the same thing.
So many blame the vodafone staff for this apple stuff up. But I always received excellent service each time I went in to see them.

From what I can see, most people relate a good customer service to free credits.
1/ Ask Vodafone on Khyber Pass if they are getting iPhones, no. Found out later they had 4. 2/ Queue outside DS Wireless later on launch day, 7th in queue to be told sorry sold out. No offer to take details etc. 3/ Try to contact DS wireless on their Facebook page, post removed. 4/ Contact Vodafone Customer services to complain that people are boasting they had phones reserved for them on launch day. They say some stores following procedure (which is no holding phones) and some not. Can't do anything for me. 5/ Paul Brislen tweets there are more phones, I go to Digital Mobile in Albany Westfield and they say yes we have three, but all allocated. List is long. 6/ Days later I phone Vodafone West City mall, they say we have phones coming after 3pm. I get there at 2:30pm and first they say there are no phones today, then they say I can't queue or sign up now and just try randomly after 3pm, then they say oh we won't have any 32gb and going from prepay to an account is a hassle.

Man that is shocking service. I rang up vodafone Johnsonville last week and the guy there was happy to talk to me and answer all my questions including:
"do you have any 16gb phones?" : yes "can i switch from prepay to account?" : yes. "how long does it take?" : if all our systems are working then 15 mins "can my wife and I on prepay have our new phones on one account?" : yes, but she has to ring customer services - she can do that here "what is the warranty?" : one year "how do i go about getting the bumper?" : there is an app you can download
They were really helpful - talk about a wide range of experiences - I would be pissed if I got the service you got.
Having said that I went and had a go of one instore and was able to make it drop two bars by holding down the bottom left - it just doesn't fill me with confidence - I would rather wait for a revision where they fix this issue properly.

Voting with your wallet is always the best idea in these situations.
Telco's are allowed to charge you whatever they want, and sometimes they will get their service wrong just as any other company will do from time to time, no one is perfect.
The good news is - I even reckon, if it costs you a little bit extra every now and again to change providers, then move on, have a change, it's just worth it.

Actually one guy did call back same day to ask what plan I would take, but I think he was getting all excited because I called him on my wifes business mobile. He sounded disappointed when I said going from prepay to $40 plan.
I called around first thing this morning. First of all I couldn't get a single store in Auckland to answer their phone before 11am Although the Westfields open at 9am. Every store bar Albany told me they dont have a hold list. and its first come first served if and when stock arrives. I am number 120 on the list at First Mobile Albany, so will probably take weeks!
jamesjc25: I ordered mine as soon as ordering was available on the Apple site and it has a delivery date of 26/08/2010 so it is 3 weeks until it ships from Apple then approx 6 days until it delivers to your door
Likewise, I ordered mine on the day after the launch, and my delivery date is estimated to be 27/08.
