Nope. I hate how apple have become everything via dongles. It started with the macbook and ethernet and has just snowballed. Sure I may not use the port that is directly on the device but when I need it I need it and I don't want to be stuck having left the dongle somewhere or fumbling around to find it.

So what next is the macbook going to get a lightning port so you can use the same headphones on your phone or are they going to give us a dongle to convert digital to analog then back to digital and then out as analog.

Haha! How true ... There's hope for PCs and Androids!

I'll be pre ordering tonight. The loss of the 3.5mm is a nothing for me. I could count the amount of times Ive used it in the last year on 1 hand. Earphones with lightning adaptor will do everything I need

This.

So many people have got hung up on the fact the 3.5mm jack is going but forget they are providing earphones that plug into the lightning port so if out and about and are happy using the earpods then nothing is really different. 3rd party companies like Bose will adapt and I assume there will be some adapter in the future that lets you listen and charge the iPhone 7 + future versions at the same time.

Yes. The only REAL difference is you cannot charge at the same time. if you plan on doing some listening for an extended period, you will have got yourself charged. Its a great news item, but thats all it really is

I have 3 sets of headphones.

Polk Ultra Focus 8000

BrainWavs BLU-200

Earpods.

So the adaptor can live with my Polk's so not actually a big deal.

I think they will be easily lost and not cheap to replace.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Wade: Are the lightning earpods analog or digital? If digital them this is the ultimate move, upgrade to headphones with better DAC's as you see fit.... Can't wait till android do the same

You could always get lightning/usb headphones for either android or iOS. There's no need to remove the 3.5mm port that almost everyone uses with almost every audio device. Throwing away decades of compatibility for nothing. Progress!

They look cool. Price not so much. haven't investigated much but I imagine there are better and less lose-able headphones out there.

It would put me off if I was contemplating leaping the fenced to iOS.

One of our vehicles lacks BT audio, and we connect to it via a 3.5mm plug, using the 12v socket to charge at the same time.

In the absence of the 3.5mm plug we would have to get a BT stereo

As many commentators and bloggers are saying, it may be all too easy to lose an AirPod. If one falls from your ear, or if you drop one - and it falls down the loo or goes down a drain - there's no cord to arrest its drop or to use to retrieve it. It's a goner.

So will you be able to buy a single unit to re-create a pair - or will it need to be a whole new pair, in which case there will always be one left over. (Until you lose another one - so you're back to two - but then maybe they're both lefts or both rights - so now you have to buy yet another pair).

Bet I know the answer to this one!

I read somewhere that Apple have said you will be able to purchase replacements individually. Will be interesting to see what the charge for just one and without the charging case.
