Kitanai: OooH thanks Nudge. I will most likely see you there! Westfield open their doors half an hour before the mall opens so that all the staff can go in an open their stores, so I'll be outside the Vodafone store.

The whole iPhone Launch thing has been very poorly handled by VFNZ, from a PR point of view.

Yes, there's some excitement about the upcoming product, but there's also a large groundswell of resentment which could ultimately end up hurting them immensely.

YAWN! Aren't you guys getting a little tired of the old Apple routine.

The guy in the turtleneck sweater announces a piece of tech in America and convinces the world they have to have it.
It's launched in America, people queue round the block.
Applites fly to America to get one.
A quarter of a year later the rest of the world gets a look in.
People queue around the block from midnight to get that piece of tech, which has security and secrecy surrounding it that is akin to the Manhattan Project.
Within a month no one cares when you got your new toy.

Happened with the iPhone, 2, 3G, 3Gs, iPad. As a leader in innovative tech you'd think Apple could come up with a new strategy as well.

Personally I'm going to wait for the Samsung Galaxy 2S and the next gen HTC handset and compare them to the i4.

Hell TBH I am not an apple fan but my collection of apps are essential now, especially the Airnz one.

This time round I am after the better camera for my trip overseas and well I wouldn't buy one without a vodafone subsidy and android hasn't really got the same level of consumer support that I would want atm

Then you dont understand PR or marketing. Look through the comments, the people are keen, the device will sell regardless, and maybe sell more as the desparate geeks, rush out and buy it as soon as its out..

Honestly how many people were going to buy one, but now wont after the way its been handled? I will hazard a guess .. ZERO..

But what you are missing here, Mikey is that for Vodafone, this is a bad look...for Apple, it's business as usual.

Voda might sell plenty of handsets, but the number of people who were either loyal VF customers or were sitting on the fence may well choose to go to the competition with their shiny new toy.

If VFNZ had been more courteous and forthcoming, I doubt that the level of frustration would have been so high and I'd imagine more would be contemplating staying with them.

Actually no. The best PR approach would be to drip information not hold it off when they know the release.
Saying you will do something i.e. release information in a public mail yet not releasing information is absoulty shocking, hell if I was the PR manager I would have at least released something or apologized for the fark up.

If you wanted to give no information i.e. about release date then thats fine as it will build hype as people will want to know when to buy it, but releasing the date and not releasing pricing info will hurt initial sales to the general public but thats not really quantifiable is it.

I am one. I was going to purchase. Never had an apple product before, but loved the promotional vids, thought of HD video, camera, ipod all rolled into one. I was pretty amped a few weeks ago. Now the silence has really drowned my excitement and I've decided not to buy on launch day at all - and DEFINATELY not on a Vodafone contract.

Screw them.

I'm waiting 2-3 weeks to read the hands on reviews, then will order via Apple Store at my patient leisure if everything looks good, and put onto XT prepay OneBill @ $10 per month incl 200 txts, add $12 for 120 meg data.

Has anyone thought that maybe Vodafone cant do anything, and Apple is holding all the cards, same reason magnum mac and H Norman wont say where to get the phone.

I might join the Glenfield Crew of 2 ( above) and see what happens, although to be honest Ive waited so long i think i can hold out longer.

You're mixing up Apple and Vodafone. Most people will still buy one from Apple, but a certain chunk won't connect it on Vodafone.

TBH I don't know what the believe, EVERY other country has pricing and plans already released yet we don't it seems a bit fishy to me

I'm thinking to do the same. I might go Android anyway... I didn't even know about the Samsung Galaxy S until someone mentioned it in a thread today, but it looks like it might be a nice alternative for me.

What about if Apple have done a deal with both Telecom AND Vodafone, and they both know it. They are both going to launch on Friday - but waiting until the other blinks first to reveal plans?

After being a loyal Vodafone OA customer for almost 10 years, I'm starting to think maybe I'll just buy outright at MagnumMac and take it to XT. Telecom have released just as much info on iPhone pricing and plans as Vodafone have at this stage!
