Either way, the table is misleading as it doesn't include the two different versions of the Samsung Flagships on sale over that time period.

Both flagships are on there, you can't count the Note 7 obviously as they all got refunded. The note 7 wouldn't have come close to the top 5 anyway.

BTW I said iPhone sales are beating every other flagship since 2014. It was Pumpedd trying to say sales were falling LOL

Still expensive in comparison, not to mention Samsung discount virtually from day dot, which is likely why their sales figures are catching iPhone.

In my opinion, the iPhone X is closer to the S8 for comparison reasons - the iPhone lacks a stylus and it shares an identical screen size and has similar physical dimensions to the S8.

Pretty much everything on these announcements was leaked before hand, which is somewhat disappointing. But I guess they don't want there to be any real surprises for the market, and they can use leaks to judge peoples opinions on what people like and dislike. I am guessing they used this to not include touch ID on the back, as they did have concepts for that. Also disappointing the new don't don't have the fast screen refresh rate like the new ipad pros unless I missed that.

Touch ID isn't included, because apple want to put it behind the screen, and the tech isn't quite there yet.Although I would have thought it would have made sense to put it on the larger side power button, as sony has one there. It is going to be inconvenient not to have touch ID. As shown by the keynote failure, faceID is questionable, as to how easy it will be to use and how reliable it is.

Maybe they will bring touch ID to the iphone 11 and also the headphone jack? Although as these new models now have wireless charging, you can now charge and listen to music though the lightning cable at the same time, but you still need the dongle which is clunky. This is a big advantage over the old iphone 7, where you couldn't charge and listen to music via the lightning port at the same time. So the iphone 7 was useless if you wanted to hook the phone up to a stereo system with a wired connection, as you were limited by the battery life on the phone.

Apple are pricing the iPhone X at about $300 above other flagships that offer (and led with) similar technology and specifications.
Of course, it’s a free market and, as always, there will be takers at Apple’s price.

I suspect they may have trouble selling the iphone 8, unless they make it cheaper, as it is so similar to the iphone 7, which already looked dated. I think the iphone 8 design is really lazy, at least they could have reduced the head and chin down, so it was smaller and looked more modern. Although I guess the iphone 8 is really just an iphone 7s , but the iphone 7 wasn't a big design change from the iphone 6s, and 6, so we are talking about a 3-4 year old looking screen design.

I think the iphone X is a bit ugly with the top cut out. Supposedly it is possible to have the camera and sensor behind the OLED screen, and only dim them when it is needed, but maybe the technology isn't quite there yet for that. But this is the first generation,and I will be giving it a miss, mainly due to the high price. $1800 for a phone...no thanks.

Does the camera on the back protrude beyond the glass? Or does it just protrude from the metal but sit flush with the glass on the back?

It's hard to tell.

On all of them its protrudes - 8, 8plus and X

I am guessing it does still protrude, otherwise they would have made it all flush and more integrated with the back glass.

Yep, I saw it as a joke too. Just a bit of a tired one. They will still sell millions of these 'new' phones to people that have never seen these things before in their phone (if they've always had an Apple phone that is).

There hasn’t been the usual influx of iPhone 7’s on TradeMe today. Looks like most people are holding out for the X, despite the cost of it.

Maybe not that many people purchased the 7, due to it being a bit of a downgrade in some respects to the 6s with no headphone jack. Most people I know have the iphone 6 or 6s still. Also phones these days seem to last longer in terms of power. Apples devices seem to have at least 4 years life with ios support these days. Also there seems to be less disposable income at the moment, possibly because people aren't feeling as well off these days with house prices stagnating. Also I would have though that if someone is selling an iphone 7, they would do it before the announcement of a new model, otherwise it instantly loses value being an older model.

The thing I was most impressed with, was the cool building that this announcement was presented in.

I'm happy with my iPhone 11, (AKA Galaxy S8). As for face unlocking, I don't have a great success rate, same with fingerprint unlocking. You often have to stare weirdly at the phone holding it unnaturally in front of your face, and then it still doesn't always work. Finger print reader on back of phone is a lost cause too. But I'm sure Apple will invent a new supper pattern swipe unlock for their next phone.

Other than the over hyped marketing that comes with Apple; yes they are good phones and the time will come in due course to replace my wife's iPhone 6 with either an 8 or X, but that will be next year.

I find the face unlock somewhat awkward as well - although it's technically iris pattern unlocking in the Galaxy rather than full facial recognition I think.

The fingerprint thing actually is fine if you have a case: the cutout for the camera and scanner guide your finger to the right place much more reliably than the bare back of the phone.

I might go to the X (or X2 or whatever it is to be called ) when I am out of contract on the Galaxy.

Still have way more storage on the Galaxy - 64Gb internal and 256Gb SD...! And a headphone jack.

I am going to be in San Francisco on the 4th->8th (the iPhone X will release on the 3rd) ... Would it be possible to buy one straight off in the USA from an Apple Store? It seems it's cheaper (even after Import duty) than buying in NZ. (or maybe going into an AT&T store) or will the freq be different for the USA and NZ version?
