My wife has an iPad 2 (WiFi only) and she's tried many times to connect it to the free WiFi at McDonald's without success. We've tired this at several McDonald's and they all do the same thing. My Android devices on the other hand never have a problem.

Here's the situation;

1) Walk into McDonald's
2) iPad picks up the free WiFi and "connects"
3) Open the browser and the McDonald's agreement page comes up
4) Tick the check-box and press the agree button
5) Appears to do something (progress-bar moves)
6) A white page comes up (no success page or anything like I've seen on Android)
7) No internet
8) Try another page and the McDonald's agreement page comes up again
9) Repeat the process over and over until I turn on my wireless tether from my Galaxy.

So, has anyone else experienced this? Any solutions out there? I've tried forgetting the network etc but even when it find the network again the same thing occurs.

Check that in settings->safari->Accept cookies, isn't set to Never, if it is change to From Visited or Always

Sorry no solutions. Been to several McDonalds here and in Australia and connected with iPhone and iPad no worries. The connection can be a bit 'tentative' sometimes however and can drop off or stall occasionally. Do you have any issues connecting to any other wi-fi networks on the same device (i.e. at home)?

Thanks guys, I'll try the cookies thing.

And no never have problems connecting to other networks including at home and adhoc WiFi tether ones.

Because this has happened to me (duh), she is checking the tickbox to agree to the terms and conditions before she is clicking connect is she?

Hah, yes that got me too the first time but yes definitely ticking the checkbox first before accepting the agreement.

Tried again at yet another McDonalds yesterday and same thing (even with "all cookies" enabled).

Connected to CBD Free (in Wellington) just fine moments later (had never used this one before).

Hmm... this does seem odd. The only suggestion I would make is to try (when next @ McD's) to go to settings>wifi and click on the blue arrow beside the network name. From here click on 'forget this network'. Then try from scratch - selecting the network & tryig to accept conditions and log in.
There amy have been something inadvertantly selected which this may hopefully clear.

If it's any consolation, I am yet to find a McDonalds Wifi that is in any way usable, generally I can get "connectivity" and that's about it, the minute I try to sync FB or twitter or emails or web, it stalls.

3G has proven faster and more robust in all cases, this is across several McD's around Auckland.

So I wouldn't hold out too much hope.  Maybe some are luckier.  In reality if you need data on the go.. get a data plan on your mobile and tether
