Well I finally was able to convince my boss that I should have an Iphone5, only because I wanted a 64GB to store more music on it, well as part of the agreement I have to pass my Iphone4 32GB along to some one else.

After playing with my new Iphone5 I like it, the extra storage is there, it seems a little faster, call quality is slightly better (imo) but I am going to miss my little Iphone4, I feel like I have sold my soul for an extra 32GB of storage, which is funny as I only listen to 20 or so songs on a regular rotation anyway!

Anyway just thought I would share my mourning as I restore my faithful Iphone to factory and pass it on to it's next user, I hope they take as good care as I have!

You never hear of people speaking like this about their Androids.
Enjoy your new phone

Because we didn't pay anywhere near as much for our device, so we haven't spent the last 12 months projecting a personality onto an inanimate object!

What an awesome boss! Getting you a new phone just for your music.
Why don't you just put a bigger memory card in it? Oh wait, you can't........

No, disregard that, otherwise this just becomes yet another i vs g flame war. I hope you enjoy your new phone. The 5 is a great piece of design. But I predict your 'old friend' will quickly be forgotten, such is the way in consumer tech.

It's kinda big to swallow whole, with it's 4.3" Screen. I felt pretty sad selling my HD2 as well though. It was a beast of a thing.

Why didn't they get you an ipod touch instead. Less than half the price of just for music

Because I am very convincing! And I would not have got that thru on a Vodafone hardware rebate!

Please let's not turn this into an android or apple bashing thread all.

We can all just take it as a light-hearted look at my upgrade.

My Iphone4 has how gone to it's new owner who is delighted to have a replacement for his Nokia C02-01

I too was very fond of my iPhone 4. I love my Android (S3) for the software, but it's not as good looking as an iPhone.

I was pretty disappointed in iOS 7. They had an opportunity to catch up with Android and WP with some more modern features, but have focused too much on aesthetics only IMO. If they had, I may have been keen to go back.

Maybe iOS 8....

The reason for this is more than likely that the replacement android is a huge advancement from the users previous android hence no looking back!!

Price is mostly irrelevant i believe, my last three phones and most likely any future phones have/will all be all at a similar pricepoint to iPhone. Secondhand value is another thing and the value drop on android is definitely a reason to get emotional about an inanimate object but in the negative sense of the word :(

To steer the topic away from the g vs i thing I have been pondering the use, by the OP, of the word 'friend'.

Do you mean friend in terms of a facebook 'friend'?

Friends like Batman and Robin are?

Or a colleague who is a work friend, i.e. have no contact outside work?

Or someone you shared school lunches with 20 years ago that brings a smile to your face as soon as you see them?

Or a boy/girl-friend who brings benefits other than just friendship?

Perhaps a more appropriate title may have been "Goodbye to a Faithful Servant"

Or Dutiful Lacky
Or Alfred/Jeeves etc
Or sycophantic underling
..........
