Ive been looking at getting an iphone off ebay for a little while now, especially since they 5s and 5c have dropped in the states, and im a little lost in terms of how things work over there and how they would affect me in new zealand.

if a phone is locked to a network i.e sprnt, A T&T or Verizon, can it be unlocked in new zealand or is that a big no no?

Also i see some with "BAD ESN" on it, does that mean its stolen, reported lost and thus cannot be used in New Zealand?

If i get one that is "Unlocked" can i even use it in new zealand with the different GSM's?

If i get a phone and it has iOS7 on it, can i even register it to me, since the new update means stolen phones or missing phones go through the serial number and apple id now?

Sorry im a complete novice when it comes to these kinds of things, and i cant find anything "kiwi" related on the topic

many thanks in advance

It's not worth the hassle IMO. The risk of getting a bad one is too high and the saving isn't all that much anyway.
