Hi all
Upgraded IOS yesterday to 8.1.1
Took some photos today and went back to the office to put them into e-mails and respective stores for record.  I have noticed that when accessing them via cable and navigating through windows that it now has multiple folders with apples usual meaningless garb as file names.  I needed to navigate through each folder until I found the one I wanted.  Filtering it by files recently updates was no good as they are all dated the same.
It used to just display all photos/videos when I went into DCIM- my question, do I need to change a setting/operation to get it back to what it used to do? or (as I suspect) has Apple just made it harder when it didn't need to!!
I suspect this file system maybe for one of their operations, but its a pain in the arse!

Strange, used it Sunday. no issues, all photos contained within the DCIM folder or every other time I have used the photos for job logging (daily).  Upgraded last night, this morning all photos in various randomized Apple designated files.

Different apps that you used to take photos will create their own folders (albums).

Cheers chiefie, not using any other apps. just the camera within the OS

No it hasn't.
I grab photos regularly off my phone, and up until this week (last time I did it would have been about 3 weeks ago) there was the DCIM folder and one subfolder named by the device (9VLMDFH or some such).
This week, I had about 10 subfolders, and could not find the one for the photo I had just taken.

It seems, though, that if I take photos from the lock screen (ie., by swiping the camera icon up, and not actually unlocking the phone) it creates a new folder for that/those photos. Bloody annoying.

Ah the sandboxing effect.

I'd recommend using the photo import tool (built in to Windows and Mac OS) and it should pick up the DCIM folder contents easily without having to dig into them manually.

I noticed this change as well.
I take many photos and screen shots for work and plug into a PC to get them off the phone.
One day they were all visible, next day they were in seemingly random folders in a seemingly random order (no time to find what the order actually is)

A solution:
Navigate to the DCIM folder like normal.
Put a * into the explorer search and search
All the photos will become visible

Not necessarily directly relevant but I use the app Carousel to upload all photos to DropBox.  They are then available in all my other devices/computers.  That way I never really need to know what folders they are located in on the iPhone. Of course you do need wireless to do this.
