My daughter's iPhone has stopped playing media sound via its speaker. Headphones work, and the speaker still works for calls and notifications.

Google suggests it's caused by some crud interfering with the headphone socket contacts, and can be fixed by cleaning out.

I have some CRC switch cleaner spray, and I've tried moistening a little scrap of cotton and wiping around inside with no effect.

I'm tempted to just spray it straight into the socket. Will this cause damage?

Or does anyone have a better idea?

Spray it on a headphone jack (like on the end of a set of headphones) and put it in and out a few times.

I had this problem as well. I VERY GENTLY inserted a pin into the headphone socket and levered out the fluff etc that had gathered there.

^^ this is pretty common, crud builds up in the base of the socket and prevents plugs from going all the way home and making proper contact. I've seen the same thing with micro usb sockets.

I use a toothpick in the headphone socket and lightning connector socket to remove lint. IMO a bit less risky than using liquids or metal objects.

Go to the chemist/dentist and get a pack of interdental brushes. Use one to clean the fluff out of the jacks of all your phones, and the rest to get your oral hygiene improved!
