Hi all,

Not sure if it's my headphones, or maybe my MP3's are "too loud" but on some bass heavy tracks (nothing hardcore, U2 - with or without you) I get quite alot of distortion through the headphones.

I have used Itunes to turn the volume down and then re-synced, this has helped a little, but obviosuly now everything is quieter - dont want to go deaf, but wouldn't mind it a little louder :)  It has been suggested I use the Iphones Equaliser to change the bass - but dont want to do this as a:) shouldn't be neccersarry and b:) have been told this flattens the battery quicker.

I have been looking at buying v-mod duos - they are rather pricey, but if they make a difference will happily purchase.

Has anyone else had this problem? Or do I just have a bad set of headphones?

Thanks

Alan

Hey Alan,

Just checking - have you tried another set of headphones? I know they use a proprietry plug so you'd need to test with a set from another iPhone... a friend's perhaps?

If it happens on a different set then it could be firmware related. There have been a few reports of sound related issues when performing restores. Did it happen after a restore or firmware upgrade or after installation of a third-party app?? If so, it could be internal compression software gone bad in which case a restore might fix it.

Just an idea... you definitely shouldn't have to alter the sound level of your MP3's in iTunes.

Hey Piksel,

Thanks for the suggestions.  Haven't tried another pair of headphones yet, but a mate in the office has just bought an Itouch so will steal his buds when he's not looking haha

In the mean time I have enabled "soundcheck" in both itunes and the iphone and this has made things alot clearer - will now put the volume (in intunes) back to what it was before i lowered it and will see what happens.

I have an OTB 1.1.2 - was jailbroken/activated with everysim (but that piece of cr*p lasted about 2 weeks) thanksfully ziphone was released so am using that now.

Will try headphones/removing soundcheck and will see. If that doesnt work will restore and then upgrade to 1.1.3.  Haven't really seen a need until I saw "wiggly icons" haha i know, easy to please!

thanks

Yes you will unfortunately. Only if you want CallerID etc working though. The 1.1.3 phone will function without the changes - not like 1.1.2 with the crashing MobilePhone & MobileSMS apps!

It's very easy though. nzbullet and I have put together a package of all the files needed. You can choose which updates you want to make. All the files have already been patched or updated for you so it's just a matter of copying them to your phone via SFTP or one of the many GUI apps out the like iBrickr/iFuntastic/iPhoneBrowser (which there is also a fix needed for when using ziPhone but that is also covered in the post).

Sounds more complicated than it is... it's really just a matter of downloading the zip from this post and reading the readme.

If you have any questions then fire them through. Public forums as apposed to PM's as often the answers will help others Smile

"quoting for the first time hope it works"

thanks heaps, just got home from work, so not going to try tonight - hoping for a "slack" day tomorrow and will make the "plunge" - am sick of my mate harping on about "wiggly icons" (we just jailbroke his touch) so must do it .... i guess he thinks, phone, sms, camera etc etc dont count - when comparing iphone to itouch.

to nzbullet - thanks too for putting together the great guide - was a tad busy when i made my original thanks and didn't include you ... much appreciated.

Quoting works :P

Yep - go for it with the upgrade. Easiest jailbreak yet! ziPhone does everything for you including putting your phone into DFU mode.

Best advice I can give you is to not restore your iphone "settings" backup from iTunes after restoring and unlocking. A number of people are making this mistake which is the cause of 99% of problems.

So basically - after you have performed the restore to 1.1.3 and have jailbroken etc, when you connect to iTunes and it asks if you want to restore the backup settings select "No" and set it up as a new phone.

Good luck!

Hey not a problem, joint effort between Piksel and myself (and many others from around the www). I've been helped quite a few times on GZ and other sites and not really been able to help others, now I can it's time to 'Pay it forward' Tongue out

and the good news is because I am not that good at waiting, it's more than likely i'll have bricked my phone (and hopefully restored it) before others get the chance to!

thanks heaps :) hey have noticed that you and Piskel have updated your 1.1.3 callerid forum with a great vodafone icon and a way to remove the edge icon.  I removed the edge icon without probs (thanks) but since I am on 1.1.2 the location for the vodafone icon is in a different place.  Any ideas where it may be hiding?

thanks again
