Personally, I think this is the correct decision despite the self-interested protests by Apple and the IRS. More importantly, the EU is doing what everyone else is far too slow at/timid to do: forcing countries to give up on relying on these artificially low tax arrangements in an attempt to lure businesses to set up HQ, at the expense of other countries. And it's all a bit rich for Americans to complain about overreach, given their own rather unilateral attempts at foisting FATCA on everyone.

The likes of the Macrumors forum will be a hoot to read. The wailing of the blind Apple fanboys is bound to be cringeworthy.

We (a couple) own 6 Apple devices between us and I have a windows desktop. Apple's products are generally excellent (the iPad) to quite nice (Macbook Retina) in my books but nothing about the company gives me any reason to blindly love and defend it like those people do.

All of the above. Perhaps the EU could apply penalty charges if it drags out over years. Unfortunately the cabal of multi nationals that will be impacted by this have huge political influence.

Not an Apple fan but what they are doing is perfectly legal under Irish law. The EU here is just trying to override Irish law and be a big tax collector..
