Let's say someone is selling a "*gift", say a shrinkwrapped in box iphone or ipad on TM (want to avoid robot). Say it was bought in the USA, but because it's a gift, no receipt.

So if I bought it, what sort of warranty would be possible?

- If you register the product on the Apple website they know you're the owner yes/no?

- The product will have a date of sale that Apple knows about/not - how to activate the date for the warranty period?

- any other comments?

*because no way of verifying, it is what they say it is

With the iOS devices the warranty shouldn't start until the first time the device is activated.

Apple will then have this on record so no receipt is required when making a warranty claim.

When it may become a problem is if you think it is still under warranty and Apple's system says not, then you would need to provide a copy of the original invoice for proof of purchase date.

Being from the USA the device won't be covered under NZ Consumer Law in the 2nd year.

I am in contact with a guy - he says the device is from USA but when he showed me the page of the warranty from Apple website, it says something about NZ laws ... confused ...

PM me the serial number if you have it and I'll check in Apple's system.

Is the seller "In Trade" and will it be sold by auction or buy now. I am no lawyer but I believe that these are factors that come into play with regards to the CGA. As for Apple coverage I would give them a call to see if they have a global warranty in these cases.

I think it depends on the product as to if Apple offer a Global Warranty, assuming it is I have always found that Apple starts their warranty on the day the product is first registered.

I have found dealing with Apple you are dealing with someone in Texas USA for the most part, well that is what I found.

All Apple products have a global 1 year warranty, as far as I know.

If you buy an Apple product in NZ then it will automatically have a 2nd year covered under NZ Consumer law.

Products bought elsewhere, whether activated in NZ or not, will only have one year warranty.

Other countries may have their own consumer law coverage but you would need to return the device to the country of purchase, to get any repairs covered by Apple.

USA and Canada its the one year only, and that's covered by the global warranty. If Apple Care comes with it Apple seems to respect that on a global level too.
